Lived up here the past 7 years. In the process of putting a house up near Mancelona. Wanted to be closer to traverse City for a number of reasons but food being won. Yes, bit of a food snob.
I've eaten pizza down the 72 corridor at just about every roadside place that offers it from luzerne all the way into Grayling. Kellogg bridge party store became the go-to but over the past year something's changed. Literally stopped eating pizza. Staying at my buddy's cabin while I'm getting the new place in order and googled Mio pizza. The pink elephant came up. As we all know, internet pictures can be deceiving boy that crust look good. Gave it a shot last night and I must say I will put this pizza in the top three in Michigan at least from 72 South all the way to downtown Detroit to Sapinos. Quite a compliment considering Sapinos is probably one of the best pies globally And that includes Italy. Service is very country and inviting. You can sit there and eat if you'd like. Didn't check to see what was on the drink menu or if there was one. Very up north feel. Not sure exactly the type of cheese but very high quality and works perfectly with one of the best. Crusts you'll ever have. The only downside was, and I'm not a big sauce fan, but they just need a touch more to cover. The whole pizza. Seem to have a good flavor but so little of it. I couldn't really judge. Not a fan of a ton of sauce and that's sign number one to a poor pizza experience. Did a half and half medium with the go-to standards of pepperoni and mushroom and one half and ham and green pepper on the other. High quality ingredients all around. If you're headed north, why not get off at 33 and call your order in around Rose City.? It took them the full 30 minutes to properly prepare. In a wrap. If you're local, this is your go-to if not already, and if you're driving north and need a bite on the way to Petoskey or traverse City, it's worth the time for the little bit...
Read moreWe mentioned pizza for dinner and Gpa says OK we are going to Mio to the Pink Elephant. Driving from Lewiston to Mio was not what we had in mind ad the reasoning for pizza was something quick as it was beach day. Oh well, Gpa was excited to go so we went. So glad we did. The kids went from not wanting pizza to yummm with every bite. There where 7 of us and we ordered a few mediums, BLT, BBQ chicken, Ranch and Hawaiian with pbutter cheese crust. All where fantastic but none of had ever had BLT pizza and all agreed it was awsome. After seeing some of the cheese breads and knots at other tables we will definitely try a bread next time.
It was forth of July weekend. We got there just in time because by the time we got our food the line was oit the door.
I will say that the servers should take the check to register so you don't have to wait in a long line with csrry out people to cash out especially since we where paying cash so they didn't need...
Read moreMy wife Poulinesia and I were out looking for a good place to get some frog wings and some good old fashioned crinkle bear knuckle soup, when we happened upon this wonderful place. Our eyes slipped clean out of our faces when we saw all these sparkling foreign food selections that we'd never seen before. We consider ourselves serious travelers; we've been as far as Illinois, Michigan and New Hampshire so we could not believe our eyes. Or are stomachs. They made sounds like"Barbarigmi". They had exotic foods with exotic names like "potato skins" which seems a bit erotic with the reference to skin. It was also a large bowl that carried in it something very jiggly called jello. We both grab the handful and sat in the pudding, 😁 and talked about when Grandpa was still alive. And we would feed him grapes. This place is heaven especially if you like something called "crackers" or...
