Los Panchos Mexican Seafood — Restaurant in Merced

I don't usually say this. But.. Hell no.

My wife and I had occasionally gone to this restaurant throughout the last year. But today has made our decision for us to never return.

After we sat down our server had a rude attitude whenever we spoke to her. The way she spoke to my mother who we took for lunch was close to disrespectful and incredibly rude. The agua fresca tasted as if they didn't wash the container the water was made in properly, the water for the tea tasted off and on top of that they wait nearly 10 minutes after ordering to let us know an item was unavailable and if we would like another item. We decided to leave the restaurant and head to another place where we knew service would be better without a doubt and items on the menu would be readily available.

As we told the server who was at the register we wanted to leave and pay our tab because we were just not happy with everything, the server turned to the other woman who had sat us down and spoke to her in Spanish that we wanted to leave. The other woman looked at us and told us the food was ready. I told the woman we weren't happy with their service, quality and environment AND wanted to leave.

The woman told us the food was ready therefore she could pack it to go. I specifically told her we no longer wanted the food, and we just wanted to pay for the drinks we did consume and leave. The woman told us she couldn't do that, instead she could give us a discount. I told her again, we were not interested in the food anyone. The woman was being incredibly persistent about us paying for everything for several minutes. She even attempted to walk away from us into the kitchen to pack up the food that was ready while ignoring the fact we were just going to pay for what we had drank. The food had not even made it to our table and she wanted to charge us.

I made myself incredibly clear to the woman, we were unhappy with their service, their quality and the environment therefore we were going to pay for the drinks we did have and leave. The woman finally stopped insisting and agreed.

So my husband and I came here for the first time in like 8-10 years. I brought up to my husband cause we remember not disliking the food. My husband and i were seated and asked to scan the qr-code for the menu… a white male walks in and he was given a menu… we had to ask for the drink menu as they dont have drinks on the digital menu. Waitress acted surprised. I ordered an horchata and i can tell you it tasted like sink water mixed with milk and cinnamon. They bring out the chips and salsa… one was what looked like pico de gallo and a regular red spicy salsa… but it was the grossest salsas ever!!! The pico de gallo was sweet!!! Like legit super sweet no pico to it at all!! The red salsa tasted like they opened a can of enchilada sause and poured it into the bowl it had a nasty after taste. No spice to that either. We judge the restaurant based on the chips and salsa they serve the moment my husband and I tasted that initially what we came in for was switched to play it safe. I ordered the Albondigas with chile oil on the side and my husband ordered a nacho dish. The Albondigas came out and the meatballs tasted very grainy like it had sand in it… the Albondigas only had a few vegetables and very few potatoes. The broth tasted as if it was posole broth with the enchilada sauce (described above) mixed in… i make albondigas myself and i can tell you i couldnt finish it i got grossed out with every bite. I couldn’t even wash it down with my horchata cause again that tasted bad. Overall this place is not where authentic mexican food is sold. Truly disappointed from beginning to end. We are a party of 5. There was no wait. We were seated Almost right away. The server was a nice looking girl with a pretty attitude however only gave us 1 menu. We are a party of 5. So we had to share the menu. When we asked for another menu , she had us 1 more. As we waited, we noticed they have a full bar. That made me happy. Once we placed our food order we also ordered 2 strawberry daiquiri drinks. I was surprised not to see a strawberry with my drink. Not either drink came with any fruit. It was mainly ice with a pink tint to it. As our food starts to come in I was pretty disappointed because 1 person would be served, then we would have to wait another 10 minutes for another person to be served finally after the first person was served 30 minutes later the last person at our table was finally served. Our food was on the salty side. We never received any napkins. I had to ask for a fork then told I already have a spoon to use that. The menu doesn't show the prices to anything on the menu. They totally need more help. Later Our cook also became our server. He was running around from table to table and still went back to cook Seating wasn't upto covid 19 most of the guests sat pretty close to each other. Employees weared their mask under their nose.
