Seafood Express — Restaurant in Meridian

Seafood express Since I moved back to West Alabama, this gas station, seafood express I try to visit at least once a month. Today, I receive a horrendous experience, When I walked in I witnessed a minor confrontation with one of the regular customers, about requesting some extra paper bowls the food is served in and it turned into a screaming match, where the owner was shouting at the customer. The owner demanding 25 additional cent each for extra paper bowl, so the customer gave it to her, however the owner didn’t like to way he handed her the money… I was so disturbed, that went it came for me to order, I was kind of afraid… The incident was so heavy on my mind, so I ask the cashier to speak with the owner, and the cashier gave me the run down, she said “there is no need to speak to her because she will begin screaming, but I don’t think she means any harm, that’s just the way she is”, and she also said, “when she starts screaming, you will not be able to understand a thing she is saying, because after 17 years here she still can’t speak good English.” Now, the food is outstanding!!! My ideology, “before you tear someone down, you should offer a hand to lift them up”. I say again, the food is awesome!!! After I ask to speak to her, my wish was granted, and the owner did exactly what her employee said she would, she said she understood but she still kept screaming and trying to explain to me why. Now that I am being verbally abused by the owner, to make a bad situation worse, the employee that talked about the owner so bad, just in our conversation, turns and start to defend her. I would gest to think the cashier was the part time security guard, she was talking so much trash to me, if I didn’t know any better, I would have thought she was going to come across the counter! Now, the customer (me) is being screamed at by the owner and the employee just for reporting my disappointment and opinion. Needless to say, I have a lot of friends that travel to see me and before they leave, they would always stop by that gas station and purchase at least 50 + dollars of food just to take on the plane back home. People if you want to be talked to any kind of way, seafood express is the place to go. Very rude and very unprofessional… I wish the community had enough discipline, to stop patronizing until the management understands how important the customer is to its business. There is another seafood place in town, that is just as good, if not better, and it's a real restaurant, I will go there...

Food is great, 8/10...BUT...It's one of the most unorganized order and pickup systems I've ever seen. It's based inside a gas station which is fine if organized correctly. A true madhouse and whirlwind experience to get from the point of purchase to picking up your food. To add, the call in and pickup procedure in my experience is not dependable either. They should adopt the number on reciept system versus first names called out that causes confusion when you have 3 John's running up to the pickup area at the same time. Also, they should consider sticking to a dedicated food pickup, convenience store cash register, and order line. Finally, a little creativity of the gondolas; spacing them where there is clear and adequate space for the 2 dedicated order and pickup lines that form would be nice. As is, you just about have to cut line to get over to the back of it and find your place; akin to a life sized, stirred up ant bed in a convenient store. But the...

I am writing this review a couple days late, but it is still fresh in my mind. I recently visited Seafood Express and I will say that 5 stars isn't enough to rate this establishment. I unfortunately don't have any pictures of the food I ordered. I first ordered the combo plate of 6 shrimp and the catfish fillet. 2 sides, Mac & cheese and potato wedges. I honestly can't think of enough good things about it. The shrimp and fish were hot and breaded perfectly. Flavor, absolutely amazing. The catfish was flaky and had perfect crisp from the crust.
