I drove past and it smelled amazing and looked like my favorite kind of throwback!
I read the reviews online. One of the other reviewers compared it to an upgrade on Burger King. My first thought was, that reviewer must not have any other point of reference for char grilled hamburgers.
Wrong I was. From the flavor of the meat to the type of bun to the topping choices, it's EXACTLY like an upgraded Burger King. I mean, it's probably exactly what Burger King was 20 years ago before their quality started to go downhill.
I had my mouth fixed for something similar to a burger from Kopp's in Milwaukee and was disappointed. But it really wasnt disappointing. Absolutely better than any of the fast food options in the area, affordable, quick, the staff (looking mostly like teenagers) was both nice and professional. I loved the throwback decor and hope they never change. If I had to guess, I'd say the patties either arent handmade or have been frozen. Something knocks them down from amazing.
So dont drive out of your way expecting and exceptional burger. But if you're in the area and want a step up from fast food,...

But... for the price, you can't beat Chip's. Quick, efficient service, and a burger, fries, and soft drink with one refill for like $6 are features of this quaint, old-fashioned burger joint.
All of the food is delicious, and to get anything better you have to go up to at least Culver's-level establishments and pay 2 to 4 dollars more. Friendly teenagers along with some more mature folks to keep an eye on things take your order and get the food prepared almost as fast as any actual chain fast-food place.
Another reviewer mentioned Kopp's in the Milwaukee Area as a point of comparison. Kopp's burgers are bigger, but otherwise it's a fairly close comparison in style and substance.
If you are camping at Council Grounds or otherwise cooling your heels in Merrill, a stop at Chip's followed by a stop at Briq's soft serve has to be on your list...
Read moreAbsolutely disgusted. Just left the drive thru as I observed one of the fry cooks do something that I had to look twice at. For one he was not wearing gloves as he was handling the food. As he pressed on the buns on the grill, he then took a step back, lifted off his hat, ran his fingers through his hair, put his hat back on and proceeded to handle food. WTH? Not sure if it was my food but had no choice as the line was already backed up and after waiting over 5 min at the drive thru window for my food I was fed up. I love stopping at chips when I am home, even have three of tee shirts, but holy heck that is just wrong. Fire the dude! He was the one with long hair, goatee stash from ear to ear. This was at 8:30pmThursday may 12. If I date to ever step back in there and see him, I will just walk out! This is not acceptable EVER in the food...
