Felipes's Mexican Taqueria — Restaurant in Metairie

I really want to give Felipe's five stars however I was extremely disappointed with the service and refried black beans today. I have been a customer since the Metairie location opened. Before moving to Metairie I was a regular at Carrollton. I normally dine at the bar where the staff are always friendly and efficient. Today I went in to get a to go order so I got into the serving line. As I was placing my order I noticed how watered down the refried black beans were; watered down to the point that it resembled soup! When I inquired about this I got a blank stare. I asked if they had any thicker refried black beans. He then motioned to a female in the back prep area and he told me it would take four or five minutes. As I waited for the thicker beans to arrive the woman in the prep area kept staring at me. This made me extremely uncomfortable! I decided to just cancel my order. In the past while dining at the bar the kitchen has screwed up my order a number of times but the bar staff gets it corrected after checking to see that they've entered the order correctly. Today was a first for a major disappointment! I was tight squeeze for time or I would have asked to speak with the manager on duty.

UPDATE: As a happy hour regular, and not just a happy hour patron, I stopped in on Friday, Oct. 25, a normal day and time for happy hour and was greeted by the bar tender with "happy hour has been canceled". When I asked why he said, "just for today". I never got an explanation. He asked if I still wanted a drink. I declined not because I couldn't afford to pay full price but because of the principle! I left and went to another Mexican restaurant near Airline and Labarre where happy hour was NOT canceled and also got complimentary...

Parking lot is small and cramped, good luck getting a spot in the lot. We drove around for about 10 minutes and left the first time we tried going here.

We went again today, Sunday 10/01/2023. Parking lot was full again. Had to park well down the street. Not sure how they were able to open with that small a lot, that's going to be a sore point.

Came expecting sit down dining, you can sit but you have to order at the counter like at a fast food restaurant. The line to the counter was quite long, and moving slow. Not what we expected for Metairie Road...a fast food taco place with Metairie Road prices!

The menu is confusing, build your own tacos. I tried to order and asked for NO CHEESE, as they seem to pour cheese and sour cream on everything. I was told the cheese comes with everything. I said hold the cheese and was told they can't. (There were 10+ employees working the food assembly line and apparently you can't have it your way because the staff can't handle that!)

We walked out. Never been to a Filipe's before, and never will return.

Cinco de Mayo. I’ll just start there. I’m only leaving this comment because of the drive I took to make The purchase, all the way from Chalmette. And to make matters worst, I only ordered a large chip and guacamole. The guacamole is always amazing. BUTTTTT the chips stale. Just stale as dried up dirt in an Arizona peak summer day. I mean c’mon. The way business was flirting it’s no way this should have been acceptable. ANDDDDD they skimping on the serving. I mean the bag was less than half full. Just ridiculous. I seriously only come here for the chips and guacamole and in a day like today I expected better. Keep in mind, you never sacrifice quality for speed. Great environment on today, but now I’m so unhappy with the quality of my food. I went to Chipotle right after and watched them deep fry fresh tortilla chips. And to get back to Chalmette and eat this. Yeahh no. I signed up for membership on my previous visit, but now I think I may just try...
