My husband and I had dinner here last night and were really taken back by the lack of professionalism and customer service over a situation. I've never had anything like this happen in any dining scenario, let alone a restaurant at a higher price point (our dinner was $120)
My husband ordered the mushroom pasta and when it arrived he mentioned it was missing chicken. They had a lot of add on items so I told him I didn't hear him request to add chicken. We thought it was his mistake so we didn't say anything to our server. Later when it was time to pay the bill, it was a self serve check out and it did not give an itemized list, but just the total. My husband printed out the receipt and noticed it said with chicken. We brought it to the server's attention and I requested that some sort of deduction be taken because we didn't get chicken (arguably the most expensive part of the meal). Her offering was to send us off with a chicken breast to go. I told her we were going out after this and I didn't want a chicken breast sitting in the car for hours. She kept saying "it's not an add on so it's not something I can deduct." There was no apology for their mistake and the reaction felt so cold and not flexible at all, especially because they are the ones that messed up. I asked to speak to the manager and it took 15 minutes or so to speak to her. I explained the situation and she said " the price is the same whether you get chicken or not and unfortunately it's not an add on thing so I can't take it off." I was honestly furious. I said this is really horrible customer service and we paid for something we didn't fully get so we shouldn't pay full price or in most dining situations, the meal would be comped. She was not budging at all so I said I would be happy to write a review based on this situation. Her response was "go for it." I understand margins are tighter at a small business and I wasn't expecting a free meal but the fact that we paid for something and didn't receive it as advertised, I feel like something should've been given. A free dessert or something? An apology? And conveniently we already paid a 20% tip for this before we were aware of the mistake. Just mind blowing that this is how they handle conflict and their mistake! It's how a business handles the negative that shows their values and gives the customer a lasting impression of who they really are.
After reading their reviews, it's either an amazing experience or when issues arise, they do not budge and say too bad. They obviously have local die hard customers and could probably care less about the occasional bad experience for certain customers. I would never return which is sad because otherwise the food was great and I'd give 5 stars. But for $22, it was a sword they wanted to die on and would rather get a bad review, no referrals, and potential people turning away based on this review. This is not how a successful business is run, Bite. In today's economy food is expensive and the least you owe people is what...
Read moreso disappointed! Let me start by saying we used to LOVE to visit Bite, we have been there at least a 1/2 dozen times since our neighbors turned us on to this place. So you ask, why the change of heart... Tonights experience was pathetically disappointing. My sausage & caramelized onion flatbread appetizer (which was delicious) came out followed about a minute later by my lobster mac & cheese side dish, both hot but I could not enjoy my flatbread appetizer... so I took my time and the lobster mac was cold by the time I finished the flatbread. Who serves the side dish with the appetizer when I haven't even had my salad??? So I get the lobster mac & cheese to go. Time goes by with no food and then the salad shows up with a great Curry Molasses Vinegarette dressing, I take one bite and my whole Trout arrives about 30 seconds later... really, why did you not bring me the salad in the time when there was no food? So I now inhale my salad only to find that my whole Trout is now cold...ARGH!!! So disgusted at this point, I got my fish to go. Something has changed at Bite, the timing was off, the waitress never came back with replacement napkin after my fantastic flatbread and the bread I inquired about purchasing to take home (they sell loaves to go) was never mentioned again. The food was still delicious, but is not worth it, if it comes at the wrong time and is then cold by the time you get to it. The quaint intimacy seems to be gone... the wait staff seems to have been stolen from a Chili's and there was little concern about our experience from anyone even when we told two staff members. Needless to say, this restaurant is now off our radar. If you go be sure to tell them the order in which you want your food and that you would like to finish each course before proceeding on...
