I’d rate this restaurant a 5.6/10 and it’s not a place I’d attend again.
My girlfriend got the steak tips for 29$ and I got the haddock sandwich for 18$ and both were mostly flavorless, particularly the steak dish. Onions rings we ordered after seeing the fries ended up being the best part. Fries were what I can only describe as “crumpled”, it looks like if you put fries in bag, abused them for 24 hrs then deep fried them again, but tasted slightly better.
Our drinks were mediocre. We started by ordering off the cocktail menu two tequila drinks I can’t remember I the name of that were actually fairly good. And finished with two margaritas (hers strawberry and mine spicy with mezcal) that were both very bad. Both felt dominated by syrups, hers by what I can only assume is the strawberry daiquiri cocktail mix we’ve all seen, and mine dominated by what was either a jalapeño simple syrup or just plenty of jalapeño juice as you couldn’t taste the mezcal at all. I’m not saying the proper amount of liquor wasn’t added just that the ratios of these cocktails seemed off.
The service wasn’t very good either. My server constantly tried to leave the table before I finished talking or asking for everything I needed. She never came up and asked how our drinks or food was, nor did she offer us desert or coffee, as soon as our pace slowed down it was a very abrupt are you ready to leave that made the whole night feel slightly careless and rushed.
Atmosphere was a bright spot. I overall like the interior of the place and it was surprisingly busy for 8:30 on a Tuesday (although the Celtics were playing in the playoffs which might’ve boosted business...
Read moreI've been here twice and it is now one of my favorite restaurants, their food is simply AMAZING! This place was recommend by someone I met. He said they had a great short rib, that caught my attention, as short ribs are rearly seen on menues. The first time in, I of course had the short rib. Served in a deep dish plate, aloft mashed potatoes, is a huge short rib, slow cooked, fork tender and truly the best short rib I've ever tasted. If you ever questioned if perfection can be achieved, just taste the short rib at Maggie's.
For my second visit I had the bacon wrapped meatloaf. I'm always hesitant to order meatloaf, as it is difficult to get this dish right, but I know that "everything is better with bacon," so that was a good place to start. OMG, they got it RIGHT! This palatal party is served with loaded bacon and cheddar mashed potatoes (a genius pairing) and steamed broccoli. This meatloaf was some of the best I've tasted, this is a grand slam!!! The only critique I could offer, is the food is simple fantastic, but is plated very plainly, and food of this quality deserves to be showcased by a great presentation. A nice plate garnish would be nice, like a nice orange wheel with parsley or a creative fruit skewer would be nice and would complete this experience and food made with this much attention to detail and love.
UPDATE 12-30-2018
This has turned into one of my favorite restaurants. Has the Maggie's Burger tonight. Half pound of Angus beef, bacon, lettuce & tomato, served with fresh, hand cut fries. I am running out of adjectives to describe the food at this place. Let's just call this...
Read moreMy wife went two weeks ago and ordered the new salmon dish. The Salmon was slimy and fishy. My wife after taking two bites pushed her meal aside and was then asked if everything was ok, my wife explained her concerns, nothing was done, the meal was thrown away, and paid. No charge taken off or an offer to fix the plate, ok. We have been going for years, when Maggie’s was at their first location. No problems. Today some family members and I were in an area where Maggie’s was a half way point we decided to give it another shot, maybe the last visit was just a bad day. No problem. I ordered the burger, medium, it came out well done and beyond, I didn’t complain, we aren’t those people, I ate it because I was hungry, however not impressed. My wife ordered the the seared Tuna with stir fry. Super easy, the tuna ok, the veggies were super salty, I like salty foods myself, I took a bite and spit it out. My opinion is ever since Maggie’s expanded locations the food has slowly gone downhill, we haven’t gone to a chain restaurant in years, seriously in over a decade or more, 99, chilis, you catch my drift, but the food reminds me of when we used to go, gross. The drinks however and the attentiveness of the bartender was great, she was wonderful and right on top of things. Sadly we used to love the Maggie’s experience, but we will spend our money elsewhere from this point forward. It’s been fun while it lasted,...
