Middletown Diner — Restaurant in Middletown

First time dining here for my my wife and I. Stopped there for a late lunch today 2/4/23. Wife had mushroom Swiss burger with fries, and I had the Monte Cristo with fries. Both 11.99 which is a bit pricey for a diner. Service was friendly but slow for no apparent reason since there was only a few customers. Waitress only brought out my wife's meal and I had to wait several minutes for mine. Decaffeinated coffee had a strong acidic taste. Wife's burger was dining hall lunch quality. Fries portion too small for the price. I was served what they consider to be a Monte Cristo, it definitely was not. I was served pressed ham, pressed turkey, both of cheap lunch meat quality with cheese on French toast, and served with pickles and breakfast syrup on the side!!! Um, NO. That's NOT a Monte Cristo! A Monte Cristo in these parts is a triple decker ham, turkey and Swiss cheese sandwich on sourdough bread that is dipped in batter, deep fried to golden brown, then dusted with powdered sugar and served with raspberry jam on the side. Bennigans had the best. Again, fries too small of portion for the price. The overall ratings average of 4.3 here seems inflated. Perhaps it's for their breakfast. For our lunch, Wawa and Chick FIL A are just down the road a bit. Far better meals at both for less money. Will not be...

They have a server (Char) who clearly oversteps her bounds with customers. A while back she told us about a “friend” of hers who performed comedy at Tom Foolery’s. My wife and I thought it could be fun and Char would meet us there. We even dropped by the Middletown Diner to remind her. She told us some convoluted story about having to take a coworker to Walmart but she’d meet us that evening. Well, we got there to find it was trivia, not comedy but we stayed to the end regardless. What do you know: NO CHAR. When we saw her back at the diner the next week, she swore she was there, sitting with the master of ceremony and how could we have missed her. I’ll tell you how: SHE LIED! SHE NEVER SHOWED!

That brings us to this evening. By luck, we had the other waitress take our order. My wife mentioned to her about our Char experience and what do you know, Char comes flying to our table, pushed my wife over, sat down, the proceeds to read us the riot act about us telling lies about her. All this sitting at our table while we tried to eat. I spoke up and asked her to leave. She freaking ignored me. I got louder this time and she must have thought it better to leave this time.

Middletown Diner! A nice little spot! You know it’s good if you see elderly folks inside and they know them by name lol 😂. Took the family out for breakfast the other day we were in the area and stopped in. Clean all the way around! Old school diner vibe with the bakery selection when you walk in. I had the 301 Special. 😊 Came with Two French Toast, Two Eggs, Choice Of Meat, I Went With Scrapple And Homefries. We were served in a timely manner and the food was fresh and hot! You can only have waffles on the weekends so beware if you like waffles lol. Wife had the country omelette and was pleased. 🍳 Kids had short stack of pancakes with bacon. 🥓 🥞 All of our meals combined was only $45. Very fair pricing. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. Really zero complaints. Perfect place to take the family for a meal!
