Lanny's Restaurant — Restaurant in Midland

Lanny's is an American Diner that used to be located in Sanford and now is on Saginaw Road in Midland. I tried it tonight and as it's a Diner, I had what I feel that every Diner should be judged by: Hot Turkey Sandwich with Mashed Potatoes and Gravy.

Visually (should have taken a picture), it was a classic. Two half sandwiches on white bread with a scoop of mashed potatoes in the middle, all smothered in gravy.

The turkey sandwiches were fine, but nothing special. The turkey itself was real sliced, partially shredded turkey breast, not the sliced deli turkey loaf you sometimes find on a hot turkey. It was fine, but nothing special. The gravy was good, not too thin, not too thick, just about perfect. The potatoes were the real deal, and a bit chunky, just like I like. Although I thought they were a bit too salty.

Portion wise it was about perfect. $8.50, including tax, for plenty to eat for dinner. I hate places that charge $12-15 for the same meal with an extra scoop of potatoes (that probably cost like $0.15 to serve) and I can't finish anyway.

All in all, not half bad (this is coming from a Minnesotan so that's a compliment).

A note about my reviews: One star, unacceptable. Two stars, OK. Three stars, perfectly acceptable in all ways. Four and five stars are reserved for establishments with outstanding food quality, service, value...

This place is fantastic! Our waitress Amanda was super nice & attentive and our meals were really delicious. I usually order a Reuben sandwich to compare when I visit a place for the first time and this place has the best Reuben that I've ever had. Plenty of sauce, plenty of kraut, decent amount of meat and they use the marbled rye which was perfectly toasted while still fresh and fluffy. Their homemade potato drop soup was super tasty, their coleslaw was delicious, and their fries were pretty good too. We'll definitely be back!

Update: we came back and Lee helped us and she was just as friendly & awesome as Amanda. The Reuben is still delicious and the wings are amazing here and as you can see from the pics, the kids really enjoyed the grilled cinnamon roll. This is my favorite restaurant. And props to the cook. He makes the food...

I love gyro/Greek omelets. I went here because they had one and I was not disappointed. There gyro omelet was the best I have ever had! It is stuffed full of meat, like when I go back I won't have to order it with double meat. There was a generous amount of feta. I ordered it without tomato. I upgraded the potatoes to the "red potatoes" which were way more than I expected. Potaoes perfectly seasoned with peppers, absolutely delicious! The only thing that could have made the plate better would have been a few kalamata olives as edible garnish to balance the richness of the feta.

The service was great. The people pleasant and a totally family oriented dining room.

I highly recommend this place.

My only issue next time I go will be whether I indulge in the excellent omlett or explore more of what I'm sure to be...
