Okay, this rating is based on my first visit to this place. At first, I thought Google Maps was taking me to the wrong place. It is tucked away on a residential street and was easy to overlook during the dark early morning hours. The building was completely hidden in the dark with the exception of the lonely "OPEN" that was lit up. No other exterior lights were on! Once I decided on a place to park (no parking spaces were painted), and once I was able to locate the entrance (tucked away on the side), I entered to find a humble looking interior. I quickly realized this restaurant was formeto the rly a house, which explained the entrance door location through the former garage. It was empty at 7am, and no one was at the counter, so I stood there until an elderly man (maybe Oscar?) noticed me and called for the cashier. She came up and promptly took my order. I ordered Oscar's Super Burrito, which contained sausage, chorizo, bacon, potato, egg, beans, jalapeños and cheese. Sounds yummy, right? In less than a minute, she returned to the counter with a rather sizeable burrito. When she handed it to me, I immediately noticed that it was barely warm, which means it is pre-made fillings held in a warmer...NOT freshly made! By the time I made it in to work (5 minutes later), the Burrito was cold, and I had to nuke it. Taste wise, it had really good chorizo flavor, but there was no sausage, no bacon, and the jalapenos were pickled, not fresh. Overall, it's a decent burrito, but I don't think I got what I ordered. I paid $6.74 for this burrito, which is about average in this area. I will try again to see if they deserve more stars. It's a local Mom and Pop shop. Give them a try and see...
Read moreI still remember when this place first opened back in the mid 90s. I was away at school and when i came back for the summer all my friends from Lee were raving about this place. When I tried it for myself it was simply the most glorious thing I had ever eaten. I would eat here every chance I got when I was in Midland.
Now fast forward to April of 2016, and not much has changed about this place. Really, the only thing has changed are my taste buds, influenced by the rise (and in some cases fall) of fast casual spots like Chipotle, Qdoba, Baja Fresh, and Taco Deli. Oscar's still makes a great burrito, but perhaps not as glorious as I once thought.
Still, I would probably give this place 4 stars if it were not for the cleanliness. Please note, that I nearly always order in the drive thru. However, what I have noticed there is a plethora of flies. This past visit I noticed some flies but my previous visit 8 months ago I had never seen so many flies at a restaurant drive thru. It kind of grossed me out. Still the burritos here are too good for me not to come back at least once when I'm in town.
The one thing that has changed recently is the menu board outside. I found it super confusing. Perhaps regulars will get it down but I looked at that thing for like 5 minutes completely perplexed. What was really weird was that the old menu still existed behind it, partially covered by the new menu but not actually covered at all.
On this last visit I ended up ordering a couple combination fajita burritos. Thumbs up. I wish we had burrito places like...
Read moreTried their Chicken Quesadilla, Barbacoa Chimi, and Fajita Dinner Plate. All 3 were lacking. Not the worst thing I've ever eaten, but extremely low in my go-to Mexican Places. Ordered through Door Dash which I guess some descriptions were missing. Wanted a Beef Fajita Plate but the Fajita Plate description didn't specify a meat, so I guess chicken is the default? Really nothing exciting. I love Quesadilla's so I am extra critical on them. If you're going to smother a quesadilla in a Chilli con queso.. actually put Chilli and be sure your queso is actually good enough for it... tasted like gas station nacho cheese, definitely wasn't my favorite. The Barbacoa Chimi... ehhh, was the better of the 3 plates, but the Barbacoa was bland. Overall, probably won't get food from here again. It may sit well with others, but this place just...
