This is the second time I've been in Firebirds in about 8 years. It did not take me long to remember why I hadn't returned sooner.
There were 12 of us, we had a reservation. The restaurant was not particularly busy. The waiter was pleasant as he went around the table taking orders, all seemed well. Then we waited. and waited and waited some more for our meals to arrive. No one seemed to mind the wait as our group was chatting and catching up on news. Finally, the dishes started trickling in to the table. Not all at once, but a 2 or 3, then another 2, then another....you get the point.
Now, this is somewhat of an upscale establishment. Not as high end as say, Morton's or Flemming's, but supposedly a step up from Outback or Lone Star. Three of the steaks were cooked improperly: medium well and well done when our friends had asked for rare and medium rare. So back to the kitchen the orders went.
I ordered a chicken sandwich, sans bread. Mine arrived with the second wave of food delivery and it was delicious. The chicken was moist, tender and cooked just right. I had a side of broccoli, which was also tasty.
While I'm eating my dinner, my companion sitting across from me, had ordered the pork chops. He watched me clean my plate, before his came. In fact, all steaks sent back to the kitchen had not been reserved by the time I finished mine. Time kept moving...one by one the newly cooked steaks arrive. One of our guests had hers put in a to go container because everyone had finished eating. My partner was the last to be served, even after the redos. He said the pork chops were very nicely done.
I didn't hear much about how others in our party liked their meals. I think everyone was so hungry, they just ate, not talking about it.
After all the trouble getting our food and getting it right, a manager (I'm just assuming it was a manager) came to us and apologized (The waiter, obviously frustrated, had apologized throughout). All who had trouble with meals were not charged for them THAT'S why I gave the experience that third star. They did make it right in the only way they could.
When we were there years ago, I remember a similar situation. We were, at that time with a large group, as well. Perhaps the service and food preparation is more acceptable with smaller parties. I don't know....
I hate giving low ratings, but the prices that Firebirds commands should definitely assure a...
Read moreUpdate! The worst experience last Friday,15th (dinner). First, we walked in & the hostess rudely said if we didn't make reservations then the wait is 45 mins to1 hour; or we can sit at the high tables by the bar. Where is it posted on Firebirds Wood Grill website that the restaurant takes reservations only? Because we hadn't eaten since breakfast, we chose the high tables which we later realized was horribly cold & apparently where the servers come in & out of the kitchen, but we were going to make it work. Secondly, we waited about 10 mins then a female server came out & took the couple (non-people of color) who was seated 10 mins after we were seated. We knew she noticed that we looked her way. After she brought the couple their drinks she stoops down at our table & tells my friend & I that Mk will be our server, howeve she'll take our drink order. 5 mins later, Mk comes pass us & says I'll be bringing your drinks shortly. 6 mins go by and I see Mk picking up dirty plates off of his customers (I think) tables. I say to my friend, I hope that's not our drinks on that tray surrounded by dirty dishes?!!! Mk proceeds to our table sits the tray filled with dirty dishes and our drinks down on the low bench beside us; Mk says a 'tea & a coke?' Wait...what?!! I told Mk, we don't won't those drinks like that. Mk gets upset, abruptly picks up the tray and storms off saying....'Well.' Well what?! How dare me & friend not accept drinks under unsanitary conditions? How dare we expect to be treated with respect? Of course my friend got up & left! We were definitely not going to trust Mk or anyone, at that point, with food or drinks. We asked ourselves, if we weren't people of color; would the hostess been friendlier?! Would the female server had taken our order first, like she should of?! Would M**k have brought over our drinks surrounded by dirty dishes?! We went to a neighboring restaurant, had a great meal & as usual left a great tip for great service. We don't know what's going on with Firebirds Wood Grill- Chesterfield but I hope this updated review will help upper management discuss the "first impression" rule, go over infection control procedures & biased behavior.
Haven't visited Firebird's in a long while. It was just as I remembered. Good friendly service. Food order was tasty and very well prepared. Definitely...
Read moreMy wife and I recently dined here, and while the experience was a mix of highs and lows, the exceptional service ensured we left on a positive note.
We both opted for steak and my wife’s three- course-meal was a standout. Her sirloin was perfectly cooked and flavorful, and the crème brûlée cheesecake was a delightful way to end the meal—creamy, indulgent, and just sweet enough.
However, my experience with the aged ribeye was disappointing. As someone who appreciates a good steak, I was expecting a high-quality, well-aged cut given its premium price (there weren't any more expensive options). Unfortunately, the ribeye didn’t deliver. The texture was tougher than expected, lacking the tenderness that proper aging typically brings. It felt more like a standard-grade choice steak rather than the prime-grade quality I anticipated. My assumption was that the "aged" label would guarantee something special, but this didn’t seem to be the case.
To the restaurant’s credit, Jeff and Julia were incredibly attentive and made every effort to improve the situation. They replaced my initial steak—which oddly resembled a sirloin more than a ribeye—with a better cut. The second attempt was a slight improvement, thinner but still not remarkable. Jeff even apologized for the limited selection of well-marbled steaks, which I appreciated.
Despite my steak woes, the service was outstanding, and the overall atmosphere was pleasant. We'll definitely be back for the excellent service and other menu options, but I’ve decided that steaks here are off my...
