This is the best Thai restaurant I have found in New England. My wife is Thai, and we live in DC, but whenever we come up to Connecticut, we make sure to make the two hour trip up to Millbury to have this excellent Thai food. The chef cooks authentic Thai food and it is so flavorful. She is at her best when making amazing broths, and she showcases that in her duck soup, Jehlek Noodle Soup, wonton soup, nam sai, etc. Kai Mook excels at street food as well. There are so many dishes that are well worth a try. Their himmaparn, a cashew and pineapple stir fry, is amazing. I love their kua kling, which is great for anyone feeling adventurous and likes spicy food/turmeric. They do not shy away from making food spicy when requested. The restaurant has a star system for spiciness: one star has a small amount of heat, two stars is getting spicy, three stars is usually a Thai level of heat, and anything above that I cannot handle myself!
The staff are very friendly. They get to know their regular customers and greet them warmly. It is a small-town feel.
Kai Mook is a real pearl, and it belongs on your must-eat list if you live anywhere in...
Read moreMy wife and I were pleasantly surprised with Kai Mook. We love Thai food, but have always struggled to find truly good Thai food around central Massachusetts. This place really delivers some great flavors at a very reasonable cost. It's not the fanciest place in the world presentation wise, but it gets the job done and I would much prefer it to taste good than look good and taste mediocre.
I probably would've given this place a 4 based on my first meal here, which was a duck special in peanut sauce with rice. The duck skin was nice and crispy and the peanut sauce was good, but it was a little too heavy.
The second time we came, I ordered the chicken pad thai, which was absolutely delicious. You know it's good when you can devour the entire plate without feeling sick afterwards. The flavors are great and it's my go to whenever we come to Kai Mook now.
If you're looking for good Thai food in central MA, Kai Mook is a great option. It's a smaller place with only 7ish tables (limited seating) and while we haven't experienced this, I can see how it could fill up pretty easily and...
Read moreI used to going to this place for their KapowDuck as it tasted really well. I brought two-digits of friends along to try the duck, all of them were satisfied and brought their friends as well.
However, I am disappointed for the recent two experiences and I would say the kapow duck is something I wouldn't give a single try in the future.
A few noticeable reasons Apparently they changed the breading and the crust isn't that crispy anymore Duck is overfried, which means it's less juicy - this bullet might relate to the first one as if you do less breading then you should adjust the time of frying Sauce gets much thinner than it was in the past 1.5 years, it acutally feels like soup, not sauce, so less flavoraful Somehow sauce is a bit bitter
One thing that isn't related to the quality of food but really surprised me is they charged $2 for my request adding more bell pepper to the duck per plate while did not let me know upfront, and sadly did not see that Extra pepper in my plate.
Anything else was fine and this comment only reflects the qualifty of...
