The Golden Village Restaurant is earning two stars from me for the take-out that I received on Halloween Night, October 31st, 2015.
I placed a to-go order from Golden Village at about 5 PM. I placed a simple order of Beef Lo-Mein, Orange Chicken, and General Tsos Chicken.
According to the menu, each order of chicken comes with steamed rice. Since there were two orders of chicken, there should have been two things of rice. Unfortunately, we only received one thing of rice. Rice is not a big deal, it was just a minor flaw in the order.
When I got home and unboxed my meal I was greeted with two boxes of a red-looking chicken, one had broccoli and one was just this red-looking chicken. I tasted both of them and both tasted exactly the same. Neither tasted like Orange Chicken or General Tsos chicken, at least, none that I have tasted from other authentic Chinese places.
I then opened the box that was supposed to contain my Beef Lo-Mein. What I found were small pieces of beef, chow mein noodles, and some miscellaneous vegetables.
I then decided to call the restaurant to try and get a justification or a replacement as this did not appear to be what I ordered. The restaurant told me that the noodles I received were in-fact the lo-mein noodles, despite them being the crispy noodles that their menu describes under their chow mein. They also told me that the chicken was in-fact both the General Tsos and Orange Chicken. They both looked the same. Taking the restaurants word, I decided to eat the food with some family.
The lo-mein was disgusting, the bean sprouts in it were limp and the beef in the lo-mein was absolutely disgusting. The chicken was alright; however, it does not taste like any Chinese food I had ever had before.
My recommendation to anybody who is looking for Chinese food is to drive to Walla Walla. If you do order from this place, be sure to check your order...
Read moreThis was hands down the most disgusting food I have ever tasted in my life. Nothing was redeeming in any way.
The egg flower soup had so much corn starch in it it could stand a spoon straight up.
The kids chicken strips were burnt black.
The geral tsos tasted like bleach and corn starch, as well as having so much red food coloring it looked like a hard candy.
The mandarin beef was entirely fat and connective tissue. They clearly used trim that any other restaurant would cutt off and throw away. It is as ordered spicy and had absolutely no spice whatsoever.
The fried rice was just rice and soy sauce. No vegetables, no egg, no meat. Just rice tinted brown with kikoman.
The "crab puffs" had imitation crab.
Even the kids french fries were completely saturated with oil, as if they were cooked in a fryer that was too cold.
I've been to bad restaurants but this is a special case. This was completely inedible garbage.
Not fit to give to the dogs.
The service was also very slow and inattentive. They had a single server on a Saturday lunch. No buser, no host, just a single waitress to answer phones, do 5-6 Togo, bus tables, get drinks, and serve half a dozen 4 tops. She couldn't have done her job properly if she had tried. Clear case of intentionally...
Read moreLook I'm not big on bashing restaurants, it's at 3 stars because the lady with the tattoos on her arm was really nice. The other reason for the 3rd star was the food was good and good portioned for the cost.
The downfall of the service was the attention to the customers. It took roughly 10-15 minutes to get us a box and collect our payment because we were forgotten or ignored. Maybe it's because we arrived right before the dinner rush and were leaving during the dinner rush but when you have 4 kids, time matters. The longer they wait the more impatient they are and the more rowdy they are which causes the parents to get frustrated.
Overall the food was good, and lady with the tattoos was nice, but idk if I wanna return after the full affect just because of the attention to detail/customer retention. And to be clear the lady with the tattoos was not solely at fault, there was another lady who delivered our order and ultimately was responsible for our table it seemed.
3/5. I hate to be negative, could have just been a rough night or...
