Dishonest, Slow, and Incomplete. It's an absolute tragedy that even with as good as their food is, the experience I had yesterday will keep me from going again.
I placed an order online at 6:10 for curbside delivery at 6:30. At 6:20 I called to confirm the order had been started and would be ready when I got there and the manager Aaron tells me "We're already working on that one, it will be ready when you get here." I get there at 6:30 and find that there are no available curbside spots to park, so I'm stuck parking too far away for them to be expected to see the car I specified online and come out with my food - so I walk inside and wait in line to let them know I'm here for pickup.
I make it to the counter about 6:35 and let them know I'm here. The exact same manager who told me on the phone, just 15 minutes prior, that my food had been started, turned his back to me and shouts to the lady running the kitchen "Go ahead and drop the order for [...]".
So if I had sat out in the car awaiting curbside service instead of coming in to get my food, they would have NEVER started cooking my food?! Why even take orders online at all then? Why allow me to schedule something 20 minutes in advance? WHY LIE TO ME ON THE PHONE?!
As bad as that is, it was by no means the end of it. I stood there for another 13 minutes as people who came in after I did got their food and left and the poor little girl at the counter (who was maybe 15 or 16 years old) profusely apologized for the experience but offered no real solutions. I made sure to tell her that I'm not upset with her by any means and that I'm not looking to place blame so much as get my food. But the truth of the matter is that this isn't the first time this had happened (hence why I called ahead in the first place at all!) and the fact that the manager of the store - the person who directly lied to me - couldn't even be bothered to be the one offering empty apologies didn't exactly make my wait any better.
Finally, they get my food up on the the counter and I'm sent on my way. I should have, given how the experience was going, stopped to check everything was there before I left. I should have. But I didn't. It was only after leaving the parking lot and making it nearly to Hall's Hardware that I realized I never got my milkshake. So I had to pull two u-turns and run back inside and ask that same poor girl for my missing milkshake. Which she ran to get. It was mostly melted and apparently the only thing that anyone had bothered to make half an hour prior when the manager said my order had been started.
She told me to let her know if it was too runny, but I couldn't be away from my store any longer. This food was for myself and a coworker who had been stuck up at a busy store without eating, and every minute I wasted trying to sort this nonsense out was time I was forcing my coworker into doing a two-person job by herself. So melty milkshake will simply have to do. I leave the restaurant (again), get back to my store (having been gone nearly 45 minutes to make a run that should have taken 15 at max), and then discover that they forgot an order of french fries.
I am mad. I wasn't showing any anger or frustration while I was there, despite experiencing a growing amount of it, because honestly if the experience would have still be at least passable if I had had any of these problems separately. Long wait? Good food can be worth it. Didn't start the order I had made 20 minutes ago until I got there? ...Alright maybe you're busy. Missed an item? Things happen. Two items? Uh-Oh. LIE TO ME OVER THE PHONE ABOUT A QUESTION I SPECIFICALLY ASKED TO KEEP FROM EXPERIENCING THIS??? That's a lot less "okay" in my book -- but still, if that'd been the end of it, I probably wouldn't be writing this rant.
It was all of these things together that have made me swear off TasteeFreez for good. And that's an absolute shame, because the food is great. It really is -- but it is by no means worth it. At every stage of this exchange I was wronged, and the management made no efforts to...
Read moreSaucy’s? Huh?? When did that happen? What happened to Big T’s? I’ve been gone far too long.
Everyone knows Big T has been a staple hangout and dive in this community for decades. It’s where we went after baseball games, on Friday nights when we would go out to rent movies at Movie Gallery or Tops Movie Rentals (those who lived at that time, will remember Tops 😎 You are my people😁) on weekends and get ice cream at Big T’s on the way home. It’s where friends and families gathered, church youth groups met here, birthday events, and so on for decades. Coming home seeing a new sign on my favorite greasy spoon eatery in town was shocking, as I’m sure it has been for so many others that were here for the change from Big T’s to Saucy’s.
All that said, I wasn’t willing to prejudice my thoughts on the new owner(s) and new name until I had a chance to check it out for myself to see what, if anything has changed- good, bad, or otherwise.
So Saucy’s is offering breakfast too now? Yes please! I’m down with that, I guarantee it. With my favorite meal being offered, I just had to give it a try. I was NOT disappointed. Neither will you be, I assure you😉
Like most of you, I’ve been eating at Big T’s for decades and it has been absolutely wonderful every single time hands down. Memories aside, now that it’s called Saucy’s I didn’t expecting anything less than greatness. My breakfast was better than great, simple yes, but it was absolutely amazing. The biscuits might just be the best I’ve ever had. It blew me away!
If you go here thinking it’s anything but a greasy spoon eatery where you can enjoy an ice cream or shake then you are missing the point.
It’s my opinion this is the best home town greasy spoon joint I’ve been to period, and you’d be hard pressed to find anything better- ANYWHERE around town, even if the name and owners have changed. The food is still just as good and the shakes are just as delicious as they’ve ever been and the onion rings, the gravy, the breakfast, it’s all wonderful and just as good as I remember it all was.
I’m happy, ecstatic even that someone wants to continue to keep this tradition alive and going in our small town. God bless you Saucy’s, and thanks for taking up the reigns and being willing to keep putting out great food and shakes and stuff. I’m a fan. Always have been, always will be. If anything changes I’ll update this review, but it hasn’t disappointed me yet so far. Keep up the great work and thank you Saucy’s for keeping our favorite eatery rooted in our community and keeping our traditions alive. God bless you, Saucy’s!
Side note: Now, I haven’t been there as of writing this in a few months and could be wrong here, but last time I ate there, I noticed the prices were close to being what it use to be when Saucy’s was Big T’s. Which, truthfully, even when it was Big T’s, the prices were always on the high side of things in my opinion. But the food and shakes are so good!!!! I still cringe though when I pay for my order, every time. That said, if the prices go up ANY, I would definitely find elsewhere to eat. I wouldn’t pay any more for anything from here at this point. That’s the only bad remark I can make is the prices. They have always been very proud of their product. I do not see how they could justify getting any more expensive than it has been for several years now. As long as I’m willing to pay for it I’ll keep the 5 ⭐️rating. When that changes...
Read moreOkay, I'm gonna rant about my time at Tastee Freeze and explain why the owner shouldn't just lose his business license, he should be facing criminal charges. *Just to add, ANY manager that justifies his procedures and actions and enforces them is as crooked and corrupt as the man himself.
A criminal who made me illegally forfeit my breaks "no matter the duration of my shift", has deliberately, repeatedly broken labor laws and sexually harassesed employees. (All the way back to when he employed my mother) After being a breader/dishwasher for ONE WEEK, I will never eat at Tastee Freeze again, even if my life depended on it. The conditions of their kitchen should have the restaurant closed. The discriminaton, the sexual harassment, labor laws being broken, the managers who back up his incompetent procedures, the unjustified filth....
Tastee Freeze is a fraud.
HERE IS WHY I QUIT: There is mold, first off. Secondly, I was electrocuted on the job because of open electrical currents touching wet areas and surfaces. Thirdly, I was one of the only people who wasn't allowed a break. (All other employees in the back snuck cigarette breaks, but warned me I'd be terminated) I don't mind going without a cigarette, but who's right is it to decide I'm not worthy of a lunch break?
I sure as hell will miss fried pickles, but I won't put myself at risk to the germs and bacteria the food is being prepared around/in. If someone is willing to break laws and say inappropriate things and serve food in unsanitary conditions, then they don't deserve my business. The employees/managers/owners know the conditions, but continue to cook in a contaminated, polluted environment with no consideration to who consumes the food. The food is good, the conditions it's being prepared in is embarrassing...
