My husband and I took our son to Shonets (in Milton) from Dunbar. Good little drive. Not too far but for us it is because our son is autistic and sometimes will not go into a restaurant that is new. So having never been there but seeing such good reviews, we wanted something different and decided to take the chance. The place was super busy so we had a bit of a wait. Our son (he's 10) was getting a little overwhelmed at not having a seat soon after going in (he has hardly any patience lol) so a man was cleaning off a table and I asked if I could have a chair for him to sit in. He says yes, absolutely! So he sits down and the guy says "he has autism right?" I said yeah he does and this is a new place for him and he replies that his son is also autistic and recognized it right away. He was so sweet. He said his son works in the back sometimes rolling silverware and such. The place had a lot of older customers in there and people that are older are the first to stare when our son is starting to get upset, but that was not the case today. One lady even turned to talk to Jayce and said it's ok honey don't worry. With all of that out of the way, the food was good. My husband and I both had the turkey and dressing with green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy. The food was hot and delicious. The rolls were a tad undercooked I think but still edible and decent. Our son had the chicken tenders with mashed potatoes and gravy and it was very good too. Our server only came to the table once so we couldn't request refills from her and I had to ask someone else for boxes, but our experience was extremely good. When I went to pay the bill I asked if we could also leave the gentleman a tip that was so kind to us, but he didn't work there he was just helping out so I...
Read moreWe were in the area and thought we'd try this place. There is a sign that says, seat yourself but all the tables were either occupied or had not been bussed yet. Still, one of the servers told us to, "just sit anywhere". We started to leave but found a relatively clean booth behind the portable surrounding unit that sits in the floor. I had a burger and my wife had fish n chips. The burger is a typical greasy-spoon-type burger: no asking how you want it cooked, everyone gets well-done, and a greasy bun from being toasted on the flat top. It's good that the bun was toasted because the toasted oat of the bun was the most flavorful part of the sandwich. While not bad, the burger was pretty bland. The fish was much better, well-seasoned and pretty tasty but I suspect the oil they fried it in wasn't hot enough as it was very greasy. The fries appear to be frozen seasoned fries which, if you're not making your own, are the best kind. Service was friendly but appeared to be inexperienced. They weren't terribly busy but she forgot to bring sauce we asked for and only checked on us once after that. We also had to go search for a to-go box as we couldn't get anyone's attention too all for one. She also never offered dessert which was particularly disappointing because I was really in the mood for pie. That's ok, though. We stopped at DQ on the way home. If you're hungry and nearby, and you like old-fashioned diner-style food, you might like Shonet's. I wouldn't decline if someone wanted to go but I'm not likely to choose it...
Read moreThe waitress was in to big of a hurry, I realize they were busy but she didn't even give me time to ask for something. I ordered the spaghetti but told her I didn't want it baked or any cheese on it, I just wanted it with the spaghetti sauce on it, so what I got was noodles with sauce that tasted like tomato paste or something poured over it, it didn't taste like spaghetti sauce 😞 so no it wasn't at all good but I ate it, the toast touched on the table when she put my plate down so no I didn't eat it because yes I'm that way I can't eat food that touches the table and I didn't get a chance to ask for other toast. I also ordered vegetable soup that I was really looking forward to, my mom had to ask our waitress for the bowl to get the soup because she never brought it, when she did bring the bowl she had her thumb down inside the bowl so no I couldn't and wouldn't go get soup to eat 😞 this wasn't my first time there but I hadn't been there in a really long time but another time I got spaghetti and it was awful too and from that experience is why I ordered the spaghetti the way I did hoping I would get good spaghetti but nope! So i will probably never go back again. I did let the cashier know about my toast and soup bowl and I ask for a refund on the soup since I didn't get it. A year or 2 ago I did get fish a couple of times and...
