Milwaukee finally has good sushi. This is the real deal.

This is a 14-course nigiri meal, so basically 10-12 pieces of fish or seafood and rice and a couple extra special dishes. There were no true sashimi bites or just fish alone without rice or some other vessel to eat at the same time.

This level and quality of seafood is typically only available in: Japan, west coast, major US cities. There is and never has been anything this good in Milwaukee, ever.

Chef Ray has a really inventive experience from start to finish. I will be back.

Service is awesome, one on one and very attentive to anything you may need to drink or refill.

They ask up front if anyone has allergies. They will easily accommodate if they can.

Some critiques:

Music. Not sure if 90s hip hop works. Maybe if it was a little quieter. It would have been fine without any music too.

A la carte. I was still hungry afterward. Typically, you have the ability to order extra pieces of what was on the menu. This is easy extra revenue for the restaurant. They said it was something they wanted to do in the future.

True omakase. I think true omakase is focused on the fish. Very simply, it's perfect rice, fish, wasabi, a little brush of magic nikiri, a sweeter lighter soy sauce, and that's it. Here, there's a bit more focus on the experience, show, and other ingredients and flavors that sometimes overwhelm or muddle the flavor of the fish. This isn't a bad thing. The restaurant has its vision and theme, but I don't get that true, authentic, omakase feel. The quality and freshness of the fish and seafood are top tier. The toro tuna, which may be the best bite of sushi you can eat, was a little overpowered with black truffle added to it. They could pull it off without concealing the fish flavors and still have a home run experience, but if they did that, the masses might not, "get it." So onwards with the creativity and extra touches.

This place deserves to prosper. It's up to the people of Milwaukee to fill all 12 seats here multiple times a day, every day of the week. It's silly to need to drive all the way to Chicago for quality sushi.

I visited again on 4/30/25 and it seems most items were edited for the better. The fish was not overpowered by other ingredients like last time and the true flavors really shined. Bravo. My only critique this time was the seasonal mackerel was a little bland and lacking flavor and seasoning. Everything else spot on. Customer service continues to be...

Was lucky enough to score a last minute reservation at 1033 Omakase for myself and one of my buddies and I am so glad that I did.

Staff was friendly and attentive as soon as we arrived. The restaurant only sits 10-15 people so very cozy environment and definitely enjoyed the atmosphere and ability to be right there with the chefs while they were preparing the food. We did the 14 course and my friend and I after each item was served felt like each one was somehow better than the last.

They had a great selection of sake and other cocktails and the hosts made great recommendations or provided insight on favorites of different staff members.

Even as someone who enjoys sushi who used to be a picky eater, there were many things on the menu I had never tried before but really loved. The food was fun, fresh, high quality and the touch of the head chef there making your food and interacting with you, being able to see the detail while making each course is a great added touch.

The chef was attentive, always asking our thoughts, providing insight on what we were eating and I enjoyed after the meal that he asked what our favorite thing was, which frankly was a hard question to answer where many of the courses were competing for that spot.

I personally enjoyed the 90’s hip hop (don’t worry karens, it’s the radio edits) and thought it added a unique touch and was not too loud as to hinder conversation. If you’re lucky enough to get a reservation here it is absolutely a must go and I certainly hope to go back in the future.

For people trying to get a reservation, make sure to I sign up for email notifications on Resy. A spot opened up yesterday for today and was glad to be able to hop on it. This place is going to continue to be busy and for good reason.

1033 Team, I wish you continued success and I’m glad I was able to experience what the hype was about, it was well worth it and...

We drove from West Bend to come to this restaurant. We had to book a reservation in mid January for a dinner in mid March, and we still got the 8 o’clock slot. Absolutely worth the wait! They only do three dinners a night when they’re open, they all last about an hour and a half.

This restaurant only seats 8 people at a time, and is very much a personal dining experience. The chef prepares all the courses in front of you, and goes over each one before you eat it. Some people may scoff at the price, but this is a truly unique dining experience in Milwaukee. This felt more like something you’d get in Chicago, or NYC, but without the price tag. As far as I know, there isn’t anything like this in the city right now, and I do hope this restaurant sticks around for a LONG time. The restaurant feels and looks like a very high end place, and as far as the food goes, it is, but the atmosphere is laid back and it’s not so uptight. The staff is very friendly, and the chef is wonderful.

Fresh, delicious seafood and a rotating menu depending on what’s available at the time. You can tell the chef takes great care in sourcing and preparing this food. It’s masterful. We cannot wait to come back. Just be aware that if you want to try this place, you will likely have to book a couple months ahead of time, but I cannot recommend this place...

Dine in date 12/27/24 This Omakase experience is a new and highly needed type of flavor that Milwaukee needs. Chef Ray and staff were beyond exceptional in terms of service and food. Be sure to get there early to enjoy the ambience of 90s hip hop music and enjoying a beverage as they prep for seating. When seated we were greeted respectfully by Ray and his assistant. The food came out one by one, mind you this Omakase is not your typical sushi restaurant. There are no Americanized rolls. Instead it’s a one bite dish that Chef Ray carefully and precisely make in front of you. Each and every bite got better from the egg custard to the dessert at the end. There were types of fish I personally didn’t enjoy, but Ray’s original renditions of them made me a fan. Aside from the omakase, the drinks were phenomenal. We had two of the cocktails and the Ume Highball; all which was beautifully crafted. The two servers were professional and very attentive, something you really don’t see nowadays in restaurants. Never leaving you with an empty water glass, always asking for our opinion about the dishes we just had. If you’ve never had an omakase before, 1033 Omakase is an amazing experience I wish everyone should try. Leave the Godzilla rolls at the supermarket, get the closest thing to Japan right here in Milwaukee.
