Nice ambiance. Our waiter was SUPER delightful. The guy was great. However, The food was mediocre. The goat stew was good. I ordered a chicken meat pie and the inside was all curry chicken. I was expecting same filling in beef pie (brown sauce) except chicken. They should list the chicken meat pie as a curry meat pie. generally, I've had much better in terms of crust and flavor. The rice was awful. Didnt seem fresh and didn't have the right flavor or texture. Tasted mushy. Plantain were good. I had $10 chicken lunch special also. It was ok. The thing that surprised me the most. As the only customer in a tiny dining room (8 small tables) And I was alone (party of 1), the owner is cleaning the tables and never speaks or even greet me. I found that really weird. She's literally walking past me to get to other tables (that are already clean) and not even ask me about the food or just to say hi. She came in 3 times and did this. The reason I found out she was the owner because I asked. I couldn't believe it and wanted to confirm. It felt very awkward to be in a small room with the owner and have her not so much as crack a smile and avoid eye contact. Since she didn't take 30 seconds to ask me about my food or anything. im sharing it here. If I was a food blogger she would be in trouble. I really belive if I was caucasian she wouldnt have done that. Some foreigners think having white customers make their business more successful. My tip was 25% and I ordered 3 different dishes to get a sample of eveything. This food and service reminded me of my experience at Erie Palace one time. Wonder if they are affiliated. I think they will do fine in the area. I dont foresee see a long line like at upper yard but most people don't have a standard for jamaican food. They will taste anything from there and say its good because...

Really was excited to have a meal here, it’s been on my list for a long time. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was very friendly. We had drinks within 5 minutes and they have authentic Jamaican ginger beer! Loved that. Apps within 15 minutes. The egg rolls were delicious! Easily our favorite part of the entire meal. The veggie Jamaican patties were also really tasty. Unfortunately we didn’t feel as great about our meals. He ordered the jerk chicken which is labeled “spicy.” The chicken was hit or miss on which pieces were dry and which weren’t, and it was not as spicy as he hoped. My husband said it was a 2, maybe a 3 on the spice scale.

I had the chickpea squash curry. It was hearty and warm but really lacking in flavor. It was labeled “medium spicy” but it was not at all. And I’m sensitive to spice. And I regrettably didn’t really see much squash in the dish. It was like a few sautéed thinly sliced veggies with an entire can of chickpeas and a small bit of sauce.

We also got the stuffed plantains. The texture was great, the flavor was almost non existent.

Overall, the dinner lacked seasoning and depth of flavor. It lacked salt. No salt or pepper even on the table. And was a bit dry. Would benefit so much from condiments and sauce.

We tipped generously, we enjoyed our experience overall. We would like to return and try a few other dishes. We would like to support local businesses! I hope we enjoy the next dishes we...

Unfortunately I was not happy with the service, the wait was suppppper long even though they weren’t busy. The food was cold as well.

I discovered Mobay Cafe a few weeks ago and yesterday was actually my first time dining in. I wanted My fiancé to try this place out. We arrived at about 6:45pm on 3/26 and honestly didn’t leave until 8:30pm. The server was not attentive AT ALL and she was rude. I told the server what my fiancé wanted to drink and she wasn’t understanding our question “what is the name of the rum in the rum punch?” The server never came and apologized about the wait.

When the server brought us out our entrees she asked how is the food and I was honest, I said “ It’s good but very cold.” The server literally looked at me with the weirdest look as if I offended her and she just walked away. The server didn’t say a word. I’ve never felt so awkward in my life at a restaurant.

2 minutes later an older lady stopped by our table and asked if everything was okay, I told her our food was cold but it’s fine we already started eating it because we waited so long for our food. She asked if we would like it reheated in the microwave. We said no and she apologized and walked away.

The food was honestly pretty good but I will not be returning due to the server and...

Mobay is very unassuming from the outside. If you're not looking for it, you wouldn't know it's there. Use the street view in maps so you know what the building looks like. The atmosphere is wonderful. The decor is tropical in a classy style. The music has an island flare (a little too loud, but not deafening). Soft lighting. Our server Dion was a delightful young man. Friendly, patient, accommodating. There when you needed him, but scarce to let us enjoy our food and conversation. The food is just delicious. There were four of us and most of their appetizers and some sides come in a quantity of four. We each ordered a different one so we could all try each of them. We ordered the Mobay Meatballs, Shrimp Egg Rolls, Conch Fritters, and Fried Dumplings. Some sweet, some spicy. Overall great combination. Very tasty. For dinner I ordered the happy hour Jerk Chicken Sliders. Yum. They come with crinkle fries. Two people ordered the Goat and Oxtail Combo dinner because they never had either before. They loved it. One ordered the Brown Stew Chicken which is only available on Wednesdays. She said it was very good. We had NO disappointments. Overall wonderful experience with a good time being had by all.

Being from the Caribbean, it's hard to find good island food in my city when dining out. Mobay Cafe provided that experience that I was craving. With the starters, please try the meatballs. They added thyme to them, which took it up a notch. They were moist, flavorful, and oh so scrumptious. For dinner, I had the combo plate of curry chicken and oxtail. I was not disappointed. My only gripe was that I wanted more of the oxtails and the plantains WERE NOT RIPE OR SWEET. We were not happy about that. It seems to be a complaint that many people have about the menu. The plantains need to be more ripe. The lamb chops were also packed with flavor and beautifully plated. Just be careful because it's a bit spicy due to the fact that it was made with the jerk sauce. The goat and curry shrimp were also a big hit with my party. If you're looking for good food, Mobay Cafe may be the place for you. But don't take my word for it. Try it for yourself.
