A flaming, flavorful surprise at Asadero Garibaldi in Milwaukee, WI! I was invited by the proprietor to dine at Asadero Garibaldi. They bill the restaurant as “Milwaukee’s Finest Mexican Steakhouse.” I went to put their claim to the test. In full transparency while I was invited, I did pay for my portion of the meal as I dined with two other guests. Asadero Garibaldi is housed in an unassuming two story building on Milwaukee’s southside which could easily be mistaken for a corner tavern. It is located at 3086 S. 20th Street, Milwaukee, WI. However, once you walk inside, you discover a casual, yet premium environment complete with premium spirits and wines. The building has a bar area and dining rooms on the first and second floor. Upon looking at the menu, I realized my assumption of the restaurant was wrong. I assumed it was a Mexican restaurant that would provide premium steaks along side traditional “tex-mex” dishes such as enchiladas, rice and beans. In fact, there are no enchiladas or beans on the menu. Asadero Garibaldi is a premium Mexican steakhouse which infuses it meats with unique Mexican flavors and prepared using methods found in the heart of Mexico.
The Food: Our party of three started with the “Chicharrón De Ribeye” appetizer. This features small pieces of ribeye seasoned and prepared using the same cooking method used to make chicharrónes (pork rinds). They were crispy on the outside and seasoned with the flavors of Mexico. The crispy ribeye pieces are presented on a cast iron skillet along with guacamole, radishes, and pico de gallo. It came with both a short stack of corn tortillas as well as a basket of seasoned corn chips. I enjoyed pieces of the “Chicarrón De Ribeye” inside of two mini-tacos I made using the corn tortillas and then enjoyed more of the guacamole using the chips. Next came our entrée. We ordered their signature Tomahawk steak along with side orders of grilled vegetables and roasted asparagus to share among the three of us. What we received was something not just full of flavor, but full of wonder as well! Our server wheeled out the very impressive Tomahawk steak which was being held on its edge on a specialize tray. Our server asked us to be careful right before lighting the steak into what could only be describe as a tower of flame! We did not realize when we ordered the steak that our server would finish cooking it to temperature right there at our tableside. We applauded along with the other patrons in the room at the impressive site. While many will undoubtedly order this dish for the sheer entertainment value of witnessing the mighty flame, I must add the quality of the presentation was matched only by the flavor and tenderness of the steak itself. It was excellent along with the flavors of the roasted vegetables. The Service: The service during our visit was excellent. Our server spoke both English and Spanish, was well manicured, friendly yet professional, and very knowledgeable on every item on the menu. Our drinks were always refreshed and my glass of water was never less than half full. This experience reminded me once again of the joy that dining out used to be.
Pricing: As I mentioned Asadero Garibaldi is a casual yet premium experience. That being said, you can still find entrée’s beginning at $16 going all the way up to $160. While our meal was at the higher end of the spectrum, our meal was in line with the cost at most quality steakhouses for a party of three.
Conclusion: If you are looking to escape the everyday and want a dining experience filled with premium flavors, food and service, I strongly recommend...
Read moreWe came for happy hour which is from 4:30-630. However, when we asked staff, what was the happy hour menu or specials, they said there was no happy hour. Clearly, they do have a happy hour because online they post all about their happy hours. Then, after five minutes of talking to one another, they determine that there is happy hour which they were planning on having a menu for that they’re still working on. Their happy hour is $6 dollar margaritas and a $10 special on wings. After talking, they said six wings and you choose between 2 flavors. To me the happy hour on the margaritas is a great deal, but six wings that is not a deal at all. However, once our food came, it wasn’t just six wings it came with celery, carrots, and french fries so then for $10 it makes sense. The wings were average, one wing tasted as if it was re-heated or old? Considering we were the first people at the bar ordering food and no one else was seated in the dining area I would expect my food to be hot. There was new staff training behind the bar, which is understandable. I ordered a passionfruit margarita on the rocks. The first one was good. The second one didn’t compare to the first one, and the same bartender made the drink. And to be honest I seen the bartender try her drink she just made with the end of a straw, not only to put that same straw back into the drink for a customer. This place has been opened since before June If I’m not mistaken I think that’s plenty of time to have a developed happy hour menu. I’m glad I just tried here for a quick drink before bringing my girls or friends here for happy hour. Because this...
Read moreThe main issue with this place is the shady billing/charging. They didn't bring a paper bill to our table, just a handheld device for payment that they showed to the person paying. The total wasn't displayed on the device, only a tip screen, and she verbally said the total. After choosing a tip amount (while she watched), no receipt was given. So after paying, he checked his credit card app and saw the charge pending was more than the total she stated. After asking for a copy of the receipt, we saw that they had charged a 15% gratuity automatically before asking for more tip on the machine. After speaking to the manager she said she would remove 1 of the tips and comp'd an app & drink, then gave a new receipt for the lower charge. But at the end of the week, the higher charge was still on the card. I also talked to a friend who has been there a few times and admitted they'd been overcharged like that as well. The food was decent, not really impressive, and our server was mediocre. Also, their menu is full of mistakes. The appetizer page literally has the exact same description on most of the items like it was copy & pasted in error. Other items have the wrong description as well, c&p'd from other items. When we asked about it, our server was unaware and said just order based on the pictures because that's how the food will come. Then she proceeded to bring out both our entrees with sauces missing, despite them being in the...
