I grew up in this neighborhood, so while I might not be of Mexican descent, I grew up with access to pan dulce. Unlike some other panaderias in the area, this place was jammed full of variety right away when they were open. You could feel the warmth coming off some of the racks, things were that fresh. I don't know if it's a flavor that isn't as popular as it was thirty years ago when I was a teen, but they didn't have pumpkin/calabaza empanada, which is my favorite. I can only reliably get those at El Rey, but they don't open as early. I got a coconut empanada instead, which I hadn't tried before, and it's now my second favorite, still behind pumpkin.
