We were visiting my in-laws tonight in Milwaukee and were wondering where to go for dinner. We are from the Chicago area and only have one really good Puerto Rican restaurant close to us so we didn't know what to expect from a place in Milwaukee. Guys, this place is the REAL DEAL!!! Completely authentic food like my Grandmother used to make but it also has a modern flair on comfort food favorites. There were five of us and we ordered a TON of food. Like appetizers, entrees, and dessert. The bill wasn't even $100 lol!!! Not only was the food amazing, but the service was wonderful! Every single member of the wait staff blew us away and even the owner came to chat with us for quite a while as well. What a wonderful, endearing woman she is! All in all, an experience to remember and we will definitely be back next time we are in town!! Oh, word of advice - leave your cell phone in your pocket lol. I took a call and she politely asked me to hang up and reminded me I was out to dinner with my family lol. It was super sweet actually as she reminded me that calls can wait, family is forever. Really awesome sentiment and I appreciated that rule :-).
What should you get? O M G the garlic shrimp mofongo was TO DIE FOR! I got it with a side of arroz con gandules as well. Insanely good. My husband got the carne guisao which was also awesome. Don't even think about skipping out on the pastellios de carne and the pastellios de cubanito. Omgggg. My absolute favorite thing was the pastellios de guava but they also serve insane flans. Both the vanilla (caramel) and Coco (coconut) were awesome. They also served these little cookies with almonds in it.
Bottom line - everything was so good I can't even label it all lol. ...
Read moreOne of my favorite Puert Rican Restaurants by far. They have the best beef stuffed potatoes and beef empanadas. My son and I normally order steak and onions with Puerto Rican Rice and it is always good. My daughter normally orders fried chicken and Puerto Rican Rice and she loves it. Pretty clean location. The food overall is very good and fresh tasting. I have been there more than 10 times now. My family and I hv made it a tradition to go eat there on birthdays. I enjoy it and my kids love it. If I lived closed by I would probably frequent there a lot more. Parking sucks but I highly recommend this place for...
Read moreFood is always great, real Puerto Rican flavor. That is exactly why I go for the wonderful taste of true Puerto Rican cuisine. Most people think that all latin food is similar to mexican food, when nothing could be farther from the truth. Sofrito Vega uses spices like garlic, parsley, onions, ect. to bring out the flavor of the plates they offer, making their food rich, savory, and delicious. If your tired of the same old, same old you need to try this restaurant. Great attentive staff and the owners will come out to meet...
