What was built as a corner bar has been transformed (a long time ago) into this little Mexican restaurant in Walkers Point. Aside from the bar itself, it does not feel like a corner bar like most conversions tend to do. It's bright and vibrant, with lots of chatter amongst guests - even hearing people ignoring their cell phones. It warms my heart to see people returning to being in the present instead of slaves to their phones. Now we just need them turned off, right?
Our server was just a doll. She was friendly and polite, and did very well though it was obvious there was a bit of a language barrier. I would rather have to point to a menu item if English isn't the first language than have German or Irish people running a Mexican restaurant. Those were random selections. Who knows Mexican food better than a Mexican? Or German food better than a German? Right? ANYWAY. She was attentive and pleasant throughout our dinner.
My friend and I each did the a la carte menu thing. Between us we had Guacamole, Chicken Tostada Supremes (1 each), Cheese and Onion Enchiladas, Tacos, Chimichanga, and a Beef Burrito. I can tell you we loved everything but the Chimi and the Burrito. But that's only because we ate too much other stuff and didn't have room to finish. She took her chimi home, and I took my burrito home. Yum,...
Read morehey now! This place was awesome! It's not fancy or ambient, but a true Mexican joint with lots of Spanish being spoken, Mexican music playing, and GREAT Mexican food.
Not all the servers speak English well, so it's good to be very clear when. you are putting your order in. We had a little problem with the number of tacos being different from what we had ordered.
Chimichanga - pretty much a fried burrito. DE-licious. We had the al pastor meat for this.
Burrito - the menu shows the picture of a very small burrito, so we thought we were getting like a Taco Bell burrito... but it was surprisingly bigger and fatter than what they had pictured. It was quite good and very filling.
Tacos - the "steak" is more like ground beef, that is just seasoned with salt and pepper. Their "ground beef" is the same cut of meat, but seasoned in a heavier, spicier sauce. Al Pastor was classic delicious.
They do tend to sear their meat. This is great for bigger chunks of meat, like al pastor, but the the "steak" it made it somewhat dry. Next time, I'll stick with al pastor for the tacos. And a chicmichanga.
It's been a few days and looking at the pictures, I'm salivating and craving some more. No wonder the place was pretty much packed at 2pm...
Read moreBe VERY cautious when ordering food here. We were grossly overcharged. I called and spoke to the Manager and he told someone else that I was complaining about a$5.00 overcharge. Its more like a $10+ unexplained charge. We ordered 1#13 without the tostada and asked to supplement w/ a chimichanga ( were told yes) , 6 tacos,a side order of rice and beans .Per thier menu it should cost $11.95, for the # 13, $12 for the tacos $3 for the side of rice and beans , with the extra ( unexpected)charge of the chimichanga $2 50..and Guacamole extra per thier menu $2.00 totaling about $31.45 We were charged $46 and some change and WEREN'T given a receipt. Per thier manager the menus online are OLD and it should have come up to about $36 . I asked what can you do about the overcharge he said nothing, made the comment about my complaining, had no explanation why we were charged more, and said next time ask for a receipt. Totally unacceptable, we try to buy local but its hard to support small businesses if they are OPENLY ROBBING YOU. Food is not great & service horrible . See the pictures to judge for yourselves. Final note : some how they had my whole name on the order ticket which I did not...
