Exasperated dad here. My son has Crohn’s disease and CRMO. After a lengthy procedure yesterday and a stay in the ER, our kiddo is worn out. He was finally able to eat food once he was 100% from the anesthesia. We told him he could have anything he wanted. We picked up his #1 choice, a pepperoni pizza from Pizza Hut lol. The rest of us aren’t fans, so we decided to go have BBQ at Cowburners after we picked up the pizza. We went in and grabbed a table, sitting the pizza down on the table. As we were sitting a girl came over and said her boss would have her job if he saw that pizza. Understandably, we explained the situation with our son, knowing she would understand too. Surprisingly, we were told we couldn’t dine inside because of the pizza. I asked for the owners contact information, which she wouldn’t provide, and I left mine. I’m sure both the owner and waitress are fine people, but it’s ok to make an exception in a situation such as this. I would assume this isn’t some large corporate chain that can’t make a decision like allowing people to eat there and bring in food for their kiddo. Wanted to share my...
Read moreStopped in for dinner last night and wanted to try a local BBQ joint. Our family got a variety of items to try a little bit of everything. The Brisket was so tender, no knives needed! I had to try the spicy BBQ sauce as well which gave a nice tingle all over my mouth. The pulled pork and turkey was also super tender and full of flavor! The fried okra we got was made fresh, hot, and super crispy! The green beans had bacon in them of course so you can't go wrong there. The chopped brisket sandwich was outstanding, as well as the Frito chili pie made with, you guessed it, chopped brisket. Don't come here if you want to have a healthy meal. Come here if you want a stick to your ribs dinner that will leave you wanting to try more items. I definitely need to try the ribs and the wings as suggested by Jason who checked on us. Self Service jalapenos, pickles, and onions made my wife happy as well. A must check out place if you are within an hour...
Read moreOne of THE best places for BBQ in Texas. Hands down. Two things I measure a bbq place by - their sausage and their turkey. The jalapeño sausage was delicious. Mild, not too spicy, but most importantly, actually handmade. Not overly processed, which is usually the case with most places. The only other place I’ve had great sausage at is City Market in Luling. I later made an off-hand comment about how dry the turkey had been at a well-known bbq place in Ft Worth, and I was given a couple of turkey slices to try! I was so impressed; very juicy and flavorful. Their fried okra and potato salad were also perfection. Staff was also very friendly, and knowledgeable about craft beer. Overall, this is a place to make time for. Although I live in San Antonio, I an willing and ready to take another trip. Overall, Cowburners was flawless. Everything about it, from the food, to the beer, to the service was exceptional. In my travel journal, CowBurners gets:...
