5-8 Club — Restaurant in Minneapolis

My husband and I decided to have dinner tonight at 5-8 club. Absolutely never again! While the deep-fried mushrooms and fried cheese curds were good, the price of each was a little steep for what they were. My husband got the Saucy Sally with Jo Jo's and I got the classics added grilled onions, with sweet potato fries. The waitress was not attentive at all. She brought the drinks and appetizers without saying a word to us. Dropped off our meals without saying a word. My husband's Jo Jo's were cold, my sweet potatoes fried were burnt in places, ice cold, soggy, and dripping with oil. My juicy lucy had no seasoning, Styrofoam has more flavor, the cheese was almost congealed, and not anywhere near warm. Had to grab the waitress to tell her my fries were cold and dripping with oil. Her attitude suggested I shouldn't complain about it. She took the fries back to the kitchen and less than 3 minutes later brought more out. There were more fries this time, more amount of burnt fries, and an extreme amount of oil dripping off of them, and the outside of the fries were warm with the inside of them being cold. All the kitchen did was drop the same fries in the oil for a little bit and just added additional fries t. The waitress didn't even ask how everything was until after she noticed I had only taken 3 bites of the burger and threw the fry back in the basket after I complained they were cold. Sweet potato fries are $3.50 upcharge and they weren't good after attempts. My meal including the drink and not counting the appetizers was $20 roughly for us to have to go somewhere else for me to eat. My husband won't ever complain or send food back out of worry the kitchen will do something nasty to the food. We left at about 5:10 and it's 5:37. I had the hamburger steak with salad(in the favorite's section on menu). The hamburger "steak" was nothing to rave about. It was badly under seasoned. I had to salt & pepper it quite heavily. Along with some mustard helped. The caramelized online & the button mushrooms were o.k. they also were underseasoned. I wish they would make a nice onion, mushrooms sauce instead. I ordered this because I am cutting down on carbs. I appreciate this on the menu, however there is room for improvement on this dish. The bright spot was the salad that came with it. The lettuce was fresh & crispy. The other veges were fresh as well. It came with about 2. .ounce of ranch( my choice) and had diced raw onions sprinkled on top which I loved. It came with some shredded cheese on top as well. My wife had the shrimp and fries. She said the shrimp were not as good as they used to be here They were off looking being completely straight. She said they tasted like frozen processed shrimp. Her fries were outstanding. The waitress was outstanding. As I sat in our booth I noticed some housekeeping could be in order. The walls had grease/oil spots and there were dust and crumbs on ledges and inside edges. The booths were not very comfy. Sit at one of the tables instead.It cost us $55.00 with tip included which was quite generous @ 14.00 because the waitress was so good. A nice quiet place @ 2:00 p.m. all in all I am wondering if this place has changed for the worse. We have been coming here for a few times in the past and it seems to me that it is not as good as it used to be. We don't know if we will be back and with other options I think they need to pick...

As a burger joint, 5-8 Club does a wonderful job offering quality burgers for an economical price, considering that their burgers are pretty big in size with an abundant amount of fries. I ordered two types of juicy lucy burgers and I thought they both tasted very good, and I would definitely return again if I am looking for good burgers.

Cheese definitely started making a difference in determining both the texture and the taste, and the beef was cooked to perfection, with not only tons of juice but also a good amount of flavor, to the point of not needing any sauce at all, not even ketchup or mustard, which was very nice.

I will say, though, that the burgers I have had are making me define this establishment as a top notch burger spot rather than specifically a juicy lucy place, mainly because I see a juicy lucy burger as a "one version" type of item, and since I have actually had cheese-stuffed burgers elsewhere in not only Minnesota but also the whole country, I am starting to question the uniqueness of the concept of "juicy lucy" and as of now, can only see 5-8 Club as a burger joint. Maybe it's because the influence of juicy lucy has impacted the country, though.

One note is that if one lives around the area and receives Valpak mail, chances are, one might notice 5-8 Club coupons. Those will take $5 off and I would recommend people using...
