Today is National Hamburger Day. I didn't want to deal with getting a burger at a bar for dinner, and I hadn't been to El Gordo in like 8+ years (or however long it's been since they first opened). Figured I'd give El Gordo a second shot. Per my receipt, my order was placed at 6:39pm. Ordered the double burger combo, $21.45 after tax with fries and a pop. The guy working the counter (owner?) said it'd be 20-25 minutes for the food, and there was a 7 top waiting for their food still ahead of me. Only one other guy waiting for food when I walked in. OK, no biggie. My food ended up coming out over 40 minutes later. The fries were definitely hand cut and looked amazing, but were luke warm at best, limp, and had zero seasoning on them. The napkin caddy at the table had salt, but no pepper. OK, rough start. Hopefully the burger was better? The burger *looked* great. Unfortunately the bun was rock hard and was dry. The only extra food lube available besides the condiments on the bun were a handful of ketchup packets, and those weren't enough to combat the dryness. The burger toppings were good at least, but the burger patties themselves were underwhelming. Maybe they just had a bad night, but I was pretty disappointed in my experience. I doubt I'll be back anytime soon...and that kills me because I grew up in the neighborhood and always try to support local. Within a mile or so there are multiple other options for solid burgers (Buster's on 28th, Carbone's, Cedar Inn, etc.). Next time I have a hankering for a burger I'll go to one of those tried and true spots instead.

Food's good (correction in update), the rest, not so much. Try to order online, no way to select the meat you want on your taco. Call, ring once, busy signal. Call back, one ring, busy signal. Call third time, get through and the person in the other end of the line can't seem to hear what I'm saying. Told 10-15 minutes to pick up. Show up after 20, get told it's being made and will probably be 5-10 minutes. Hope this place makes it as I said the food is good and this corner has been hurting for a success. If the service doesn't improve, it's going to be another failure. UPDATE: Got home with food, it's wrong and not nearly as good as the first time we ordered here. This even after having the person in the phone read back the order. Wrong meat on 2 tacos, missing cilantro and avocado in the other 2. And for whatever reason the salsa comes in a thin baggie awfully reminiscent of a full condom.

Not terrible tasting, also not fire, fries didn't seem to be deep fried, they seemed warmed up. The Cuban Hamburger was good and had a ton on ingredients on it. The vegan burger was cooked right and came with lettuce, onion, ketchup, mustard and was good, I did not like the Bun at all due to its moist texture that it had, also was about 14 - 15 dollars. The tres leches cake was fine, I didn't care for the milk flavor; example it being made with lechera Vs. Carnation Vs. 2% milk. It was eat-able, but was also 6 1/2 dollars per piece. I did not like that the fries are served with a couple ketchup packets instead of dispatching it from a pump. I saw a lady wiping down table tops while I was seated, that is good. More could be done to the dining area appearance. I came on the weekend and dinner time, there wasn't a line and the tables were not busy.

Updated Do you enjoy placing an order, having your credit card charged then waiting for two hours on the sidewalk while multiple people walk up, order, then leave with bags of food in hand? Then you've come to the right place! Does El Gordo prioritize walk-ups? Or maybe it's that they prioritize Grub Hub and Bitesquad orders. Or, maybe, the problem is the online system is not well monitored. We'll never know. We will never know because when informed that you've been waiting an hour, then an hour and a half, then two hours, all you get from the staff is a blank stare and no explanation. Finally, when the order is called, they hand you the bag without eye contact, and not so much as a thank you. No thank you for the order, and no thank you for your patience. My order came with two beverages included. I said I'd like Jarritos (which they have on display), and the only engagement they gave me in this whole painful interaction was to say I could only have canned pop. After waiting for 2 hours and no acknowledgement of the wait, they quibbled over the beverage choice. Customer service is nonexistent. Patrons are an inconvenience.

To be fair, the tacos were pretty good. Maybe a 7/10. The burger was overcooked and dry however, which is a departure from the last time I ate there.

Guess where my money will never go ever again? There are a hundred better street taco joints within a mile and a half that are grateful for...

If I can give this a ZERO STAR I would! We always passed by here and said we’ll have to try it one day. Well today was that ONE day. We know Saturdays are one of the busiest days for restaurants, BUT this place needs to retrain their staff on customer service for take outs and STATE THE ACTUAL TIME IT WILL TAKE TO HAVE YOUR ORDER READY!!! When making my call over the phone the YOUNG GUY that answered was rude and seemed like he didn’t care one bit. I asked for a plain hotdog fries Buffalo wings two tacos norteños of Carnitas and del gordo chicken burger. I was told it will be 30-45mins. I had my husband get the food while I waited with my 2yr old. Our food took 1 hr and 45 minutes!!!! The food was WRONG AND COLD!!! If you are going to have me wait 1 hr and 45 minutes at least give me the food hot or even warm. The hotdog had bacon wrapped around it after I said nothing on it but the hotdog. And everything else was cold. I returned my food and kept the other as I still have to feed my 2yr old. When I go to get my refund the cashier was trying to tell me that they gave me the full refund and we need to take the payment for the difference. Instead they charged the card TWICE and said to check with my bank as that is a bank issue not them. SMH!!! At this point I just wanted my refund and get the heck out of there. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE EXPECTING YOUR FOOD TO BE HOT AND READY WHEN THEY SAY IT WOULD!!!!! NEVER...
