The Mexican Bar and Grill — Restaurant in Minturn

One visit here was more than enough. I'll say a few nice things: the server seemed nice and the "draff" beer was relatively cheap and cold.

A guy sitting at the bar who sat down significantly after us had chips and salsa a long time before we did. We ordered the Fundido. It and the chips and salsa showed up a few minutes before our dinners arrived.

In every other Mexican restaurant at which we've dined, tortillas come with the Fundido. Nope. $3 extra for $.05 worth of tortillas. Plus, the dip was the greasiest one I've ever had.

The salsa bowl that eventually came with a small basket of chips was tiny. We asked for more and it was $2. They need to go to Mexican restaurant school, apparently. No other Mexican restaurant I've ever visited charges for salsa, whether the first or the fifth bowl. Chilli's probably does.

The meals came a few minutes after the (intended) appetizer. If you go here, wait until you're 1/2 way or more through with the appetizers before ordering meals.

My friend got the chimichanga. He said it was ok. I ordered the seafood enchiladas. I wouldn't recommend them. The enchiladas were dry and flavor-challenged. The sauce was chalky and lacking flavor as well. No sour cream as would be expected everywhere else. I might have ordered some, but no telling how much it would cost or how long it would take to arrive. The rice was dry, which is one of the reasons I ordered more salsa.

The food is really good. The service, not so much.

We've been here twice now when traveling to the Vail area and we loved the meals. Both times we had issues with what actually ended up on the check. They bring the check out and then stand behind you while you pay which makes it awkward to review the check and decide on a tip amount.

When we went last weekend we realized after we had already left that they charged our party about $40 more than we actually ordered, the check was completely wrong (only got about half of our 10 orders on the check correct), and the amount they charged didn't even match the check!

It wasn't busy when we went on Saturday evening, which was really nice, except that we still got poor service. Drinks were almost always empty and we felt like we are constantly looking for our server for some simple help. Took a really long time to get our order in, and then to get our food. Tough on our 6 young, hungry boys.

If you go, review your check carefully. And keep in mind that they charge for things like chip refills, and probably drink refills too (that's the only explanation we have for them charging us for 6 drinks when we only...

It is obvious they are prejudice towards "greengo's". The Mexican families had great service. The white groups were tolerated at best. One of our party waited 10+ minutes for their food watching everyone else eat and the waitress practically slams the dish down and trots off without saying anything. Never came back to the table during our meal to check on us. And the food is mediocre at best. "If you're brown, stick around. If you're white, take flight."

Follow up to owner's response: There ya go, that response says it all. Still no apology for me staring at my family finishing their meal before I receive my food. And running out of water, etc. And do I really need to explain the definition of "tip"? Oh... I understand now; this is one of those masochistic themed places. You pay for the pleasure of pain. At least include some humorous insults with it next time. Almost forgot: all this on MOTHER'S DAY! Happy Mother's Day...
