Damn, where to begin, I would have to say I came here not knowing what this was, and I left entertained and hopong to come back for more. To say what used to be here was one of my favorite places to relax, Whistling Duck and it will be missed, and yet I welcome Moon Mixology after enjoying my time here can't wait to be back.
First of all, this place looks amazing inside. Don't be fooled by the exterior as it is in a corner of a plaza a bit hidden. As you can see, everything in here in terms of decoration, has something related to the moon theme from the small light sconces in the shape of mini moons, to the moons on every opposing wall just looks amazing.
We arrived early and asked if we had a reservation, which we didn't, but they said they take 50% reservations and 50% walkins, so do not be discouraged when you forget. Seated quickly, servers friendly and courteous.
To start, we ordered their version of mexican street corn, Korean Cream Corn, and by that, I mean it has a korean inspired flavoring as well, which was quite savory.
I ordered a Ribeye Prime steak, which had a smokey bbq taste, but not like American bbq. I mean, like a tex-mex backyard homecooked deliciousness but just on a whole nother different level than home grilled. Even my wife, who doesn't particularly enjoy eating red meat, had a bite, and she said, "f that's good." I also got their brussel sprouts, as a side plate came with a small grilled onion and as per before also tasted from a bbq pit with that distinct buttrry soft onion flavoring.
Wifey ordered the Lamchop Lollipops, and she took her sweet time with those so much so that she didn't want to finish them and run out of it.
She also ordered drinks, but I don't drink, and I can't say how delicious they are other than how awesome they look.
Lastly we ordered cake to go but we didn't check it till we got home and we were given the wrong slice of cake, nonetheless the cake that we did get was tres leches and it was pretty awesome.
Overall, it can get pricey, but that's what you're paying for when you come here. You basically know you're getting your moneys worth for the night out. If you live anywhere in the valley, come check this hidden gem out in the quiet corner of Mission,...
Read moreI had an extremely disappointing experience at this restaurant. I was part of a group of 12, and from the beginning, the service was unacceptably slow. Our drinks took an excessive amount of time to arrive, and at $16 each, they were nothing special—mostly ice. Several food orders never even made it to our table, and the ones that did were mixed up. I ordered a $36 filet mignon, only to receive a steak that was barely an inch thick.
Additionally, when I brought in a small birthday cake for my friend, I was never informed of a $25 cake fee. However, when another friend brought in a cake later, they were told about the charge. When I addressed this inconsistency with the owner, he initially insisted that both cakes would be charged but later decided to waive the fee after seeing how frustrated we were.
No one in our party was satisfied with the service. We arrived at 8 PM and didn’t leave until midnight due to the excessive delays. The atmosphere seemed designed to appear upscale, but in reality, it was superficial at best.
When I asked the owner if a discount could be offered for the multiple inconveniences we experienced, he attempted to make me feel guilty by implying it would come out of the server’s paycheck. This was both unprofessional and inappropriate. Instead of addressing our concerns, he was more focused on avoiding a bad review. The only compensation offered was 20% off the birthday guest’s meal, which ultimately did not happen. Additionally, two separate receipts were issued, resulting in double gratuity charges—an unacceptable mistake.
Overall, this was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. The combination of poor service, low-quality food, and unreasonably high prices makes it clear that I will not be returning, nor will anyone...
Read more"From the moment we stepped into Moon we knew we were in for a special evening. The atmosphere is sultry and intimate, setting the perfect stage for the culinary and cocktail artistry that followed. The true star of the show is, without a doubt, the cocktail program. The mixologists here are less bartenders and more alchemists. Each drink on the menu is a meticulously crafted experience, demonstrating a deep understanding of flavor profiles and a dedication to fresh, often house-made, ingredients. I highly recommend the Old Fashioned & Hibiscus Mezcal Sour—it was a revelation, perfectly balanced, beautifully presented, and genuinely unlike anything I've tasted before. My companion Audra was equally impressive. The food menu complements the cocktails brilliantly, elevating the experience from a simple bar visit to a complete dining occasion. The ribeye was an absolute standout, perfectly portioned and bursting with flavor. The synergy between the kitchen and the bar is clear, creating a cohesive and exceptional evening. Service was impeccable—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic. Joe the bartender guided us through the menu with expertise, offering thoughtful recommendations based on our preference. Moon isn't just a place to get a drink; it's a destination for anyone who appreciates the craft, the creativity, and the delicious results of true mixology. It’s pricey, yes, but entirely worth it for the unforgettable experience. A well-deserved five stars. Go for the cocktails, stay for the whole...
