ATMOSPHERE: The place itself feels quite crammed. It's not that big of a deal, but it's a bit uncomfortable when other customers are bumping into your elbow or leg as they squeeze by your table. I'd highly recommend removing one, maybe two tables so as to create a more comfortable environment for both the customers and the staff. Surely, this will never happen as I'm suggesting they purposely reduce their revenue, but it's a thought. As I made my way to the restroom, I noticed that the floor was incredibly greasy/slippery. If anyone here has been to the horseshoe taco place in town, you'll know what I mean. You basically have to balance yourself so as not to slip and fall. I don't mind doing the balance act at ghetto taco shops, but this restaurant is supposed to be a notch above those places. Do us all a favor: mop your floor properly. The restrooms were quite clean, which was nice. The lighting is just right throughout the restaurant as well.
FOOD: I ordered the red chilaquiles, over-medium eggs, and coffee. The plate comes with beans and potatoes. The eggs were cooked perfectly medium, which most places can't do right - the white will be a bit runny, or the yolk will be slightly solidified. Good job on that. The beans tasted homemade, and the potatoes were good. Basic, but good. Adding a bit of green bell pepper, onion, etc would definitely bring them up a big notch. As for the red sauce in the chilaquiles, it was very subpar. It was what I refer to as an "americanized" red sauce. It did have a slight hint of heat, which was nice, but it's severely lacking authenticity. It was similar to the standard red salsa you can get at stripes for your Q taco. The totopos were very crispy and eye appealing. The first few bites were awesome - crunchy, fresh, and lively. However, halfway through I began getting that distinctive burnt-oil flavor. You know the kind: cook has used the oil a bit too many times, or with too high of a heat and the oil takes on a burnt aftertaste. Not good.
SERVICE: The service overall was kind of average. The waitress was decently attentive, but she gave no input whatsoever when I asked her for her recommendation on the green or the red chilaquiles. All she said was that the only difference was the sauce (yeah, no duh). Some places make their red sauce real spicy. Others make it out of chile rojo, which is mostly just for color and flavor. It'd be nice if she would have elaborated a bit. This place also plays out like a fancier-than-normal mexican restaurant. Yet, they brought us our checks when we weren't even done or close to done with our visit. Sure, she explained that it was no rush and to take our time, but it's also quite off-putting to bring the checks without being prompted to. It's also an indicator for the customer that the waiter/waitress is basically now going to ghost your table. Perfectly fine for lesser places like a hole-in-the-wall restaurants and such, but not if you're trying to appear fancy and classy.
Speaking of hole-in-the-wall, I won't give details on here because I don't want it to appear like I'm attacking this restaurant. All I'll say is that management should seriously consider hiring a pest control service. Good luck to this restaurant and its customers. We don't see ourselves coming...
Read moreWell made just no flavor. It’s an upscale looking place. They serve the drinks in wine glasses. Service was good, the staff was friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is clean and well put together. Since it’s the weekend they offer breakfast all day so I ordered off the breakfast menu & my bf ordered off the lunch menu. We both got steaks and we ordered the calamari as an appetizer. The breading on the calamari was good and light. It needed a bit of salt but tasted best when eaten with the sauces provided. The calamari tasted well with the sweet chipotle sauce. The green sauce was like a Mexican sauce, tasted slightly spicy and tangy. I liked it but not as much with the calamari. I ordered steak & eggs and he ordered the sirloin steak. Honestly that green sauce would have given the steak I got flavor since it didn’t have any. We both had to add salt and pepper to our steaks which gave it a little bit of flavor but it was too late for it to get a good rich flavor. One thing they got right was that both steaks were perfectly cooked they just lacked flavor. My steak came with eggs, potatoes and toast. The eggs were cooked well & the potatoes were tasty my bfs steak came with a baked potato, veggies, & salad. He liked the baked potato & the veggies were cooked well but once again they were bland. We ended up taking them home to purée for our babies since they can’t have stuff with too sodium & these veggies were bland enough for them. Overall we were both disappointed that the steaks were lacking in flavor since they looked soo good but this comes to show that good looking food doesn’t always...
Read moreWe came w/ our family on a visit from San Antonio and we were drawn in by the reviews. The environment was pleasant and acceptable(hence the 2 star rating). Our waitress, a woman with glasses and short hair, was very brief, cold, and stoic. We blew it off. My ribeye was more rare than medium rare, which was disappointing since we are in Texas. We attend many steak houses in San Antonio such as Chauma Gaucha and Texas de Brazil for our Hotshot company meetings for our drivers. A gentleman offered to put it back on the grill, but I declined b/c I fear restaurant retaliation. My kid's burger tasted blan and as if it had been reheated from a previous day. My husband's Chicken Avacado was blan, however, avacado tends to be. I was asked about the food taste and latte I ordered upon paying at the register because no one came w/ the bill. I said it was "Okay." A gentleman responded with, "The guy that usually makes the lattes is not here." WOW. That alone says everything about a business for me. He welcomed anymore feedback, but I tend to be blunt so I declined to do so. We will not return. Though this is my experience and my opinion, it may not be the...
