I decided to come to Proper after researching both breweries in town — Moab Brewery and here — and after being hung up on by Moab Brewery. I should have trusted my gut with skipping both after seeing so many less than satisfactory reviews on Google, Yelp, Beer Advocate, Untappd, and the like. I would warn you against both of these “breweries” as well.
I got to the bar, sat down, and I proceeded to watch as three people/parties who sat after me were attended to before me. Immediate bad impression. I finally got my beer — which had so much head — the “Whisper from Krakatoa” smoked helles lager with peach and habeñero — sure sounds good, right? Wrong. Well, it was ACTUALLY spicy, which was surprising and I do give it credit for, but that’s all it was. It just tasted like carbonated-habeñero-water; possibly a LITTLE smokey, but not really, and absolutely zero peach at all.
I was also not ID’d (not that I appear young, but if your laws are so tight that you can’t even give samples for free, you shouldn’t just pick and choose which to follow), nor ever checked on; not once was I asked if I was doing okay/if the beer was good/etc…I had to go out of my way to get the bartender’s attention to ask for my check. I really should’ve just walked out, especially considering the bartender was engaging everyone else.
Furthermore (this just didn’t fit in anywhere else), it doesn’t make sense that you can buy a can for cheaper from the cooler several feet away than at the bar/restaurant.
All in all, Proper was properly...
Read moreYou know when you get to a place that is just starting out and it has those just getting starting hiccups to it, but you know that the place will be just EPIC once those little things are taken care of and you see this greatness in what they are trying to do and their hearts are all in the right place and they are being so kind and patient....You know you've stumbled upon a gem you just HAVE to get back to. This is that place. Go to it now for its newness and freshness and then go back again. And go back again. And go back again. We thought the salads were OK and the dressing was light. The service in togo boxes with those lid flaps wasn't the best experience for the price. Do a recycleable bowl maybe? We thought that you had to buy a bottle of the Pinot rather than a glass was weird, but hey we are from wineville Washington. We thought that the stout beer choices with the orange and raspberry variants were some of the best stouts we've had in a bit. We thought the onion rings and fries had potential, and we hope that they change the supplier. We loved loved loved every single person in there. They were super busy, kind, helpful, patient with out of staters and overall just reflected the heart of the...
Read moreA group of 9 of us were staying at the Sun Outdoors RV Park. On our last night Friday 4/5/24, we decided to give our business to The Proper restaurant and bar next door for our last dinner before leaving the next day. Looking for a chill dinner and a beer we were quickly surprised and had to pivot. The hostess was very rude and not very helpful. I mean who comes to work in their pajama's, good lord! We understand our group was large and suggested to split us up. She just stood there with a blank stare, annoyed, and said there was no room and other reservations were coming in. So again we asked to see if she could 'look' and let us know how long. Still an annoyed stare and a huff, she finally looked and said it'd be 45min. OK no- problem - instead of waiting 45min, we asked if they could do "Orders to go". The same hostess said "yes'" but was still very rude and annoyed taking our to go order. If i go to Moab again you won't ever see me giving this place my business. Too bad their hostess and cashier front desk staff don't understand the importance was being friendly - especially to those people...
