Fuzio Universal Bistro — Restaurant in Modesto

I am not sure what to call this place. It is great, that is for sure, but it sort of looks like a nice diner and sort of like a bar. It has a separate space for large groups and sits right in Downtown. You might think it loud, but it is not. It serves food from everywhere and all of it is good. So, I'll just call it one of the best places in Modesto to eat. We love this place. It is fun and the food is amazing.

There is parking in a lot next door and there are places to walk before or after eating. You can eat inside or out. The deliver, have pick up and take away. The place is very clean and just super fun looking. Again, we love it.

We have been a couple of times now. Try all of their starters--really do that. Their lettuce wraps are never boring, filled with firecracker marinated chicken, portobello mushrooms, water chestnuts, carrot-ginger salad, sweet chili sauce and spicy hoisin sauce--oh ya. The baked brie dip is so tasty, but heavy so be careful, with sautéed garlic, onion and fresh thyme baked and served with crisp crostinis. Share this one. Their shoe string potatoes with thyme and roasted garlic aioli are worst tossing the diet. They are crispy and I love the garlic. Now, the pan seared brussels sprouts I can and will live without. I don't like them, but my husband thinks they are great. Personally, I save their bacon wrapped dates for desert. They are perfect after dinner.

The grilled ribeye is our favorite steak there, it has 14oz certified angus beef seasoned with garlic, and ancho chili, and russet mashed. Get that rare. It is the best. The King salmon and the tri tip are also on our top list for great.

I called to make a reservation 3 days in advance for a special occasion. I'm a single mom who has worked hard all my life. I wanted to celebrate my daughters birthday as she is my only child and we have been through several unexpected challenges and several deaths due to this pandemic. I believed it was a done deal only to get another call from "Thomas" telling me no reservations are allowed for only two people! So extremely disheartening as we were good customers long before COVID hit. I told my daughter I was taking her to Fuzios, only to turn around and have to disappoint her. I see it is all about money and not about good customer service so needless to say, we will not frequent this place ever again. 😟

*In response to your reply "Thomas" I believe you need to re-read what I said in my review. I never said you responded 3 days later! I simply said "I called 3 days in advance!" In addition, if your policy is because of limited space due to COVID, then seating 2 customers should not have been a problem. Apart from speaking to you that day I didn't want to relay on my review how curt and irritated you sounded on the phone that day, now I am. My beautiful (gorgeous) daughter turned 28 today and I made reservations "For only 2" at another restaurant who honored my request. Thomas, it is about excellent customer service, especially for someone who has referred others to your establishment, that's how you keep customers. I really can’t give a review of the food, set on the patio for 30 minutes and watched everyone else not only get addressed, but they actually received multiple services of food.

It was amazing to watch people working in the service industry walk by and ignoring us, passing out food silverware and taking orders for people that came 20 minutes after we were seated.

We’ve heard the food is good, really can’t give you an answer that since we never got any service…

Lol, the people that came in 10 minutes after us are already receiving their order as I’m typing this review, yet not one employee is stopped to talk to us one single time.

As a patron I seriously appreciate your input, I was amazed because I did speak to someone at the front desk before walking out and she just looked around blankly and surprised, she offered no solutions and that’s why I appreciate yours.

Covid has presented a different dynamic for all of us, you have exemplified why Fuzio’s is rated so highly. It’s it’s difficult to get that across to different generations and new hires, but we are not going to McDonald’s when we are dining in...
