I hate to write this, but I've had a very frustrating experience as a customer trying to simply attend a concert. I bought 2 tickets to an upcoming show and received an email from the venue the next day saying my purchase had been "flagged as a potential third-party ticket reseller." It said if I didn't call their office in less than 24 hours, my purchase would be canceled, and my account would be closed.
I called and was told my purchase was flagged because I live out of state. I explained I'd be traveling for the show, as it was the closest performance to where I live. They said they wouldn't cancel my order, but they also wouldn't send me my tickets. I'd have to pick them up at the box office on the day of the show, still showcasing a lack of trust in my intentions.
Fast-forward, and work gets in the way of my ability to travel for the show. I call and ask if there's any way the tickets can be resold at face value or for anything less. They're great seats and I'd hate for them to go to waste. They say no.
While I understand (and genuinely appreciate) their efforts to protect against ticket pirating, treating an innocent customer who wants 2 tickets to a show and has done nothing wrong like a criminal is not the answer. I don't appreciate the way I've been spoken down to nor the fact that I don't have the same opportunity to get half the price of my tickets back that other customers do simply because I don't live locally.
I hope they can find a more reliable system that helps thwart resellers with bad intentions without making customers feel guilty for buying tickets for their family. I would appreciate not being treated as a presumed criminal...
Read moreThis place is so awesome. I've seen off Broadway plays, music entertainment, and comedy shows. They appeal more to an upper middle class middle aged or older adult, and young children. They mostly feature symphonies, stage plays, ballet, contemporary music, and clean comedy. They do feature cultural arts for the Hispanic community. This is not a place where you will find many international superstars or current big names. They don't offer hip-hop, rap, metal, or today's country. You'll mostly find B list musicians that were popular in the 80's or 90's that have mostly gone into obscurity. I do wish that they offered more variety for the younger crowds so that you don't have to travel up north, to the bay area, or down south for a good concert. Perhaps someday they will broaden their horizons. Also, seating is a little cramped depending on where you sit as in you can't really stand and dance during musical performances. Tickets are moderately priced and worth it as I have yet to attend a show here that I did not enjoy. I've seen Whose Line Live, The Brian Setzer Orchestra Rockin' Christmas, a Broadway play in which they made fun of the most popular Broadway plays (Scandalous Broadway?), Jay and Silent Bob Get Old, and One Night with Queen. I would definitely go back to more performances in the future. I hope someday I can catch The Beach Boys, but that show is...
Read moreThe Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto, CA is conveniently located just off highway 99, on I Street. With plenty of nearby parking, the center can accommodate many guests and numerous events. You'll also find nearby restaurants, arts centers, and more!
The center houses two theatres: Mary Stuart Rogers and Foster Family. The larger Rogers theatre is an excellent location for large stage performances, music concerts, and the performing arts. The Foster Family theatre is a smaller space but with equally excellent music and performance capabilities while offering a more intimate experience with a performer.
With a spacious lobby, numerous concession areas, ample seating and restrooms, plus an exceptional staff of paid employees and volunteer docents, every experience I've had at the Gallo Center is top notch. The volunteers are friendly and helpful from the moment you enter the doors, and the staff are always present and smiling.
Having seen stage performances such as Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, to musical shows like Brit Floyd, Mannheim Steamroller, and local celebrity James Garner, the theatres offer a great space for the whole family to enjoy the arts.
Arrive early and walk around the city a bit, then enjoy a great show at the Gallo Center...
