Happy Wok — Restaurant in Monona

I’ve lived in Madison for 5 years and have tried a lot of restaurants. This is one of my favorite Chinese locations, however there are some really bothersome things about it. First, my significant other is deathly allergic to eggs so we order the mei fun noodles with egg on the side. They charge an extra $2 for it to be on the side and their reasoning is because “it takes longer to make”. Ok then tell me it will be 15-20 minutes for my food instead of 10-15. When you go to a restaurant and order a steak, they don’t charge you extra if you get it well done because it takes longer to make. The reasoning is outrageous, rude and seemingly lazy for restaurant owners to use this an excuse. Today they said they would remove the $2 charge just this once because I “made a big deal out of it”, it yet they still charged me the $74 instead of $72. Also, when ordering they do not ask you what size you want to order. They automatically assume you want the largest size of dumplings (which I did) and medium in everything else (which I did not). So I paid an extra $6 for food I didn’t need because they gave me a medium in 2 of the things I ordered instead of the small which is what I wanted and would have clarified had they asked. Since they didn’t ask I assumed they would automatically do the small because you don’t choose a larger size for more money without asking the customer first. When you’re running a business and offer different sizes of things, you clarify which size a customer wants. It’s part of the job. They used to be reasonably priced, however their prices have gone up. It’s probably inflation and I’m hoping it’s that and not them just being greedy. I mean they must get plenty of business as the woman pointed out when discussing the additional time it takes to make eggs separately that they have too many orders to make things separately without charging. In 5 years of ordering from here I’ve only been dissatisfied with the food twice. Due to their reasoning of the eggs, the refusal for size clarification and increase in prices I will no longer be a customer. There are too many delicious restaurants in Madison to give money to a business that doesn’t clarify sizing, has been rude as much as pleasant during ordering and pickup and charges more for something on the side instead of it being mixed with the...

First and foremost let me say that this Happy Wok is nothing like the Happy wok on American Parkway east side at all, totally different almost like a knock off to that Happy Wok if there was such a thing, American Parkway is amazing this place as this place in Monona don’t need to be called the happy wok cause nothing from there was happy. HELP!!!!!! IT NEEDS HELP AND PRAYERS AND MAYBE THE HEALTH DEPT! if I could take away stars I definitely would, upon walking in the smell was very overwhelming with what idk but not inviting, got my food and got home all to find the bag was leaking everywhere which got all over everything one of the soy sauces had burst and the lid on my cashew chicken was leaking which both together created a putrid smell, not to mention upon getting everything opened the smell kept getting worse as I went not better in any one of my dishes, and then sent me with the wrong food, I ordered egg fried rice got brown mush rice, ordered chicken cashew got idk what that was, ordered sesame chicken and lo mein and found soy sauces spaghetti noodles and weird brown almost a burnt brown color on my sesame seed chicken which smelled of heavy vinegar weird I already know. Crab ragoon still frozen chunks in the middle which where very watery when opened, and last but not least when I called about this, the lady said oh I let you talk to the owner, which then said oh you must have ordered the wrong thing and I’m like nope order same thing all the time from any Chinese restaurant and nothing has ever been so bad in all my life and that’s saying some stuff, so took it back and they gave me my money back all to find i was 5$ short in which the owner took the money from his wallet to give me anyways not the register or nothing, very bad business owner and help as at this rate the taste and smell of this food well I would not recommend or ever consider to go back. I ordered a bunch of food to feed our family and got it super fast (25 minute faster than they said it would arrive) which was not what we wanted this time. I needed it at 6, but it arrived at 5:35 so had to shlep it in the oven to keep it warm. Not sure what the estimated time is for if it's that far off. ordered a ton of food and it was, unfortunately, very bland. Everything was cooked ok, just not flavorful. Disappointed for sure as we've ordered from them before and it was fine....for this type of food. The fried rice was simply seasoned (with soy sauce?) rice - no vegetables at all which I was surprised by. I've never had plain fried rice without at least peas and carrots. Seems the food has gone downhill from last time I ordered...
