I have a medical card so my wife and I visit the dispensary down the road 1-2x a month. Because we like to support small businesses, we always ask the locals for a non-chain restaurant to eat at when we are out of town. Mugsy’s had become our favorite when in Monroe, MI. In fact, I dare to say it is why I looked forward to these road trips from Ohio. I loved their wings so much we try to make it on Tuesday to enjoy the discount. And until last night, we have never had bad food, bad service, or a bad experience at their establishment.
However, after being seated and given menus, I thought the hostess was coming over to get our drink orders. Instead, we were accused of dining and dashing. She said the waitress recalls us walking out on a $10 tab 2 weeks ago.
Despite providing specifics about our last visit (where we sat, who we were with, what we ordered and even the exact date) and proof on my banking app that we paid them almost $50, the manager doubled down and said she thought it was month ago. So in addition to being called a thief, we are now liars? She refused to let me provide additional evidence off my phone that we had been there 4 times in the last 3 month and paid each time.
All they can remember is my wife's hair color. Like she is the only one who visits or lives in Michigan with blue hair. (Why would we attempt to steal anything? We know she stands out.) They claim we sat at a high top and had two drinks. Then left one at a time. We wouldn't sweat $10. I make good money and she owns a business. We typically even have plenty of cash left over from the dispensary. I don't drive 2.5 hours just to hit up a restaurant for one drink and bail on the bill. I am 5'6" and 300 lbs. I come to eat! Like I am making a 6 hour trip on an empty stomach.
By far the worst customer service I have ever had in my life. We don’t want a free meal. At this point we don’t even want an apology. We want everyone to know how they treat people! They singled us out because of a physical feature on my wife and had no other evidence we did anything wrong. Not all blue hair women look like! Not all of them are criminals. Good thing we aren’t black or I would be filing a complaint with the NCAAP. That's how bad it was. I know it isn't the same and I will never understand how it feels to be profiled or harassed in that way. But we did feel offended, judged, and targeted!! We won't be back and I am sure they don't care. That is pretty evident.
Sincerely, A Once...
Read moreUpon arrival the parking lot was pretty packed with only a few open spots so we thought the wait was going to be horrendous, that wasn't the case. We walked in and were told to go ahead and find a spot, which there were a lot of tables open for us to choose from. Our waitress was nice and attentive. We started out with the pepper jack cheese bites and they were quite tasty! There were actually quite a bit of them for the price. I decided on the Philly cheese steak with onion rings and my wife got the kicken chicken sandwich with chips. It didn't take long at all for our food to come out and from the looks of it there was plenty to fill us up. My wife said that her chicken sandwich was delicious and very filling, so much so that she only ate half of it. I noticed that her chicken breast covered the entire bun, instead of the bun being way oversized for the chicken like most places. My Philly cheese steak was amazing! Compared to other Philly cheese steaks that I have had in the past, this one had a ton of meat on it and the peppers and onions were cooked to perfection! The onion rings that I hot with my meal were also very tasty. Some places when you get onion rings they are overcooked and way to crispy, but not here! They had the right amount of breading on them and were cooked for the perfect amount of time. I would give this place a solid 9/10. It would have gotten a 10/10 if only they had coke instead of Pepsi. My wife and I agreed that we will have to come back again with our daughter so she can taste just how delicious the food is. And to think I found this place by looking on my maps for restaurants in the area and reading reviews just like this one. If you are ever in the area or just looking for a good meal, definitely...
Read moreMy companion and I were in the Monroe Saturday night and decided to stop to eat. I remembered us being at Mugsy's about a year or two ago and remembered liking it so suggested we stop there for dinner. Was surprisingly not too crowded for the time of evening so got seated right away. The waitress was friendly and efficient and our food came pretty fast and tasted good. My companion had the philly chicken with onion rings and I the cod dinner with fries and an onion soup. Very good portions for the price. The onion soup surprised me a bit, tasted a little on the sweet side which is different than what I am used to but was still quite good. We ordered the pepperjack bites appetizer to share which were awesome. We also ordered a couple of peanut butter porter beers which tasted strangely familiar and turns out the beer was from Pavlov's, another place I hadn't been to in a while. Goes to show the impact of a product when you can remember the taste after a couple years. Overall Mugsy's is a nice little place to eat and watch some sports (screens everywhere!) Just watch the high tables, a little chilly in...
