Listen. I am not just a Cook Out fan—I am a lifelong disciple of Cook Out. Born and raised in North Carolina, I’ve proudly declared that no fast food chain can rival the greasy, glorious chaos of a Cook Out tray and a 40-flavor milkshake menu. I have evangelized. I have defended. I have believed. But this Monroe location… y’all are testing my faith. For months now, I’ve been gaslighting myself, thinking maybe the milkshakes are supposed to be half-melted, sloshing around like a sad, soupy memory. Maybe I’ve changed. Maybe this is normal now. And then—I visited the Oak Island Cook Out. And friends, it was like stepping into the light. The milkshake? Thick. Cold. Defiant against gravity. It reminded me what a real Cook Out milkshake is supposed to be. It was joy. It was grief. It was a revelation wrapped in styrofoam and chocolate chips. Now I sit here in Monroe, haunted. Wondering what happened. Mourning what has been taken from us. To the good people running this Cook Out: please, I beg you, check your ice cream storage. Restore the chill. Bring back the frost. Return unto us the milkshakes that don’t slosh. Until then, it’s 3 stars—for nostalgia, for hope, and for the Oak Island experience that reminded me who I once was. PS here’s a pic of my milkshake after the 5 minute ride home in an air conditioned car :-( Edited: it was 3 stars now it’s 1. Gave another chance, got literal soup, no m&ms when asked for, and a soda that had no syrup. Boo!

I've eaten from Cook Out for years like most everyone in Monroe. Well today broke me of that habit. I went through the drive thru and got two burger trays with two cokes with no ice. Simple enough right? The lady seemed nice taking my order and I thanked her for helping me. I got to the window and she hands me a drink as I handed her my debit card. The drink is full of ice. I go to hand the drink back to her and say "I need no ice please" and she says "oh yeah, there's no ice," as she handed me my food and the other coke and refused to take back the icy cup. I'm posting a photo of this cup with "no ice" in it. I wasn't rude, matter of fact I didn't have time too because she shut the window on me with a smile and turned her back. I sat there blinking for a moment realizing what just happened. She knew she gave me a cup of ice and she didn't care. There was no line behind me. They weren't rushed. She never opened the window back up. I left after a few seconds trying to process what just happened. If I owned that location and heard my employee treated someone like that I would be mortified. The food industry is all about customer service. I guess that employee doesn't know that. Cook Out is located between McDonald's and Burger King on 74 in Monroe. I highly suggest going somewhere, anywhere, else.

I usually try not to leave one star reviews because I can alwaysfind something that a restaurant did right. This location has proven me wrong! The people working the window at the drive through had an attitude during my whole interaction with them. I'm sorry asking for napkins makes me a bad person deserving of your contempt. Also, the greasy, smooshed, pitifully small, "big" double bacon burger I ordered with equally greasy onion rings left much to be desired. The $1.00 cheeseburgers at McDonalds have more meat on them and taste better to boot! I will NOT be going to thi a location or any other cookout in the future.

I would give a no stars if I could! Today I was in the outer lane and when I finally got to the speaker, I sat there for over 10 minutes. The inner lane was moving like clock work. No one every came on to tell me hold... not a word. I thought maybe something was wrong so I drove around to the window and the girl asked me what I needed, I told her I needed to place an order and she said I would have to drive back around. I told her how long I had waited and she said “we are short staffed due to Halloween and that she would not take my order at the window”. I asked for the manager and he came to the window and I told him I just wanted to place an order... I was next in line and would he take it and that if they were not going to service the outer lane then they should close it. He walked away and never came back. I saw the girl go to the walk up window to help customers so I got out of the car and went to the window to place my order. She was the rudest person I believed I have ever met. I admit I was upset for having to wait so long, but I did use the words ... yes ma’am and thank you! She then told me that I would have to move my car, which was unbelievable, because I was the next person in line and she had taken no other orders in that lane. I got back in my car, she gave me my food and I asked if I could have her name. She said “ I don’t have to tell you my name!” I then asked for the manager on duties name... she yelled out to him “ do you want to give this lady your name” and walked away. I waited an few minutes and she never came back to the window! I honestly have never been treated this way and or have seen anyone in the service industry behaving this way and being so rude. All I wanted to do was place any order... I waited my turn.... you drove to the window because I thought they may have closed the lane... and did not cut in front of anyone and was treated horribly!! Cool Out... hire people with better customer service behavior! Look at the example that Chick-fil-A sets and learn a little! They actually appreciate their customers and treat them kindly and...

Whenever we come, of course yall are usually busy, but when you have 2 lanes, and you sit in line 10 minutes or more , and there's always 1 lane that moves faster, but the employees are NOT friendly at the window. You can barely understand them on the speaker box. They need to speak slower and clearer. Then you order your food, drive 10-15 minutes home, unless you eat in the parking lot, and your order is wrong. Then you have to go back through the line or up to the window. They'll throw a tray your way, no sorry or apologies, just acting like it's your fault your order is wrong instead of their faults. The Indian Trail location is out of our way, us living in Marshville, but they're very consistent and always seem to go above and beyond. Plus they're friendly. I get yall are busy and places have issues finding good help, but the Monroe location is a complete embarrassment. The past 2x that we've been there, even checking our food at the window, something is always wrong. Well that causes food to be wasted and just looking through the windows, makes you not want to eat from there. It looks unorganized and trashy. The employees are your biggest problems, and it seems managers are not managing like they should. I shouldn't have to pay for food I didn't order, or for food that is not correct. I guess we will just start going to Indian Trail. My husbands tray he ordered the other night, with a BBQ sandwich ONLY MAYO, and ordered a peanut butter milkshake , we got home to find his sandwich with Texas Pete, slaw, and mayo...then his peanut butter milkshake was actually banana flavored with oreos..no peanut butter period. Yeah you might grab the wrong one, but it's a consistent problem each time we come lately. I've gotten to where I'll let him order from there, and I'll go somewhere else. That store needs a major redo...employees and management needs to step their game up. It is fast food, but there shouldn't be a...

Tonight was no shocker when I went to cookout tonight that I expected attitudes. A lot of times when I'm just getting off work cookout is the only place open. I love to come get a Reese's shake and chicken strip tray after a long day at work. There is some very nice people that work at this restaurant, but there are also some nasty attitudes. One girl in particular tonight always has the worst attitude. Tonight I forgot to make the coke i ordered with my tray a huge so I waited in line for quite a while after ordering to get to the window. When I finally get up there I said, "I'm so sorry but I forgot to make the coke a huge." Her response? "Well I've already sent it and the only way I can change that is to go get the manager". So we sat there in silence for a good minute because I was waiting for her to go get her manager when she finally tells her coworker to get the manager (which she still has an attitude this whole time). I have worked in food service my whole life and I can tell you that if she was my employee i would've fired her. To be honest I have been in the managers shoes and done exactly that. You guys tell us it's "your pleasure to serve us at the window" but is it really? When you have people working for your company that has nasty attitudes and it's not just once in a while, but EVERY NIGHT?! It's ridiculous! The cookout in monroe has a lot nicer attitudes and if I have to start going out of my way to go to that location I will because the attitudes at this store is just horrible. If I could give the rating a zero star I would've.

PS: I can still hear you when the...
