So I really wanted to give this place at least 4 stars right off the bar, but I had to actually decide whether to give 2 or 3 stars due to some unfortunate issues.
Firstly, the place is super convenient to everything downtown, the decor is cute (save for one thing, but I'll touch on that shortly), and the staff was super friendly. None of my rating hinges upon their limited food/drink menu because they just opened so they get a grace period just like anyone.
Here's some of the reasons I had to take the rating down:
I got the salade niçoise and the haricoverts were bland; I realize they're not to be doused in bacon grease like Southern style green beans but they were lacking their familiar tartness.
The crème brûlée was warm on top, lukewarm in the middle, and cold and lumpy on the bottom which indicates it was most likely refrigerated in bulk, not left out to warm to room temp, and then torched while still frigid inside.
It was pretty off-putting seeing a huge painting of Satan drinking a cup of joe as I ate my meal (the painting was literally called "Satan's Morning Brew," if I'm not mistaken).
When I got home around 4PM, I had a solid half hour before I was running for the toilet all night. I was supposed to be hanging our with friends as we speak but had to take a raincheck because my intestines were screaming bloody murder.
Like I said, woulda loved to give 4 stars at least but the food poisoning was the nail in the coffin. Also, I have to agree that the prices are CA prices in an AL small town like some mentioned. I'm not sure it's truly a place that's feasible for the vast majority of the broke college kids without...
Read moreUnfortunately, my experience at this place was one of the worst I've ever personally had at a restaurant. All due to poor management. I had called and made a reservation for 5 people on April 11th, for my mom's birthday. When we got there, they were at a normal occupancy for dinnertime, but definitely not busy. We got our drink order taken almost right away. Two of us ordered drinks from the bar, no appetizer or food. That's when I noticed there was only 1 server in the entire restaurant. I thought, wow, the manager must be handling at least half the tables, but she looked miserable when she came out of the kitchen, didn't say a word to anyone. Just started making drinks at the bar. At that point, it had been 20 minutes since we ordered our drinks, so we figured she was making them for our table. Nope, wine for the table that got there 10 minutes after us. At that point, my mom was upset, and with it being her birthday, I agreed to take her somewhere else. As we all stand up to leave, THAT was when the manager decided to stop what she was doing and proceed to charge us for the 3 sweet teas we barely drank! The sweet friend in our party paid for them, even though this place wasted our time and ruined my mom's birthday dinner. They don't deserve a dime. Manager should have had people on a wait! They dropped the ball at every single chance. I hope something worthwhile finally...
Read moreWe had a great experience this morning for breakfast. Everyone was very attentive and friendly. We ordered the apple strudel, then one of us had the Eggs Benedict and the other had the French toast with bananas. Everything was delicious. The holiness sauce was some of the best i have ever had. The decor is different but in a good way. This restaurant is in the middle of an Art saturated community that can appreciate fine art. It’s old world mixed with new age. The prices for breakfast were extremely reasonable. $11-$14 per plate for the quality. I had cracker barrel earlier in the week and paid almost the same price for a sit down breakfast. Kids in the community do and will pay for homemade meals, they pay $10 dollars for coffee at Starbucks. I look forward to coming back for lunch, and a nice date nite dinner. The atmosphere is perfect for a...
