Probably will not order to-go from here again at least. We have been to their sister restaurant (Station 31) a few times and it has always been really good so that's what we were expecting here as well. Had a rough day and just wanted some good comfort food that my fiance was going to pick up. He ordered the chicken and rice for me, which I love at the other restaurant. But that's not what they gave us. When I opened it, it was a bed of cold flavorless rice with fried chicken and very salty congealed looking gravy. We did get my side of corn, which was equally as flavorless. Not really sure how chicken and rice could get confused with something called "chicken fried chicken" on the menu when there is something that actually has the words "chicken and rice" on the menu. I understand that mistakes do happen, but the fact that it wasn't even something palatable that I got instead of what I ordered is more of the issue. Neither of us wanted to eat it, which is saying something because he will eat just about anything. All in all, I'm just very disappointed. I'm sure that the experience would probably be better dining in. I have a lot of love for food and the food service industry and all of the work that goes into it, which is also just why I'm kind of sad with the effort that we received today. We would have called to get a refund, but as we paid with cash and didn't see a point in another 30 minute drive, we just ended up going to the Chick fil a down the road from our house. If I had any constructive criticism, it would be to better train FOH staff on menu items and repeating back orders before sending it back to the kitchen and before handing it off to the customer. And to scale back on the salt on the chicken fried chicken gravy for those who actually order it (and put the gravy in a separate container for to-go orders) so that the food doesn't get soggy. And please please please season your side dishes. But I did give three stars because he really liked his burger on a positive note. I'm really not a review leaver usually, but I know that a lot of times seeing a review like this causes some positive change in areas that may be lacking. I appreciate your time and hope everyone has a...
Read moreAs we were going to be driving through Montevallo about lunch time, I checked out this restaurant online and we decided to go there. It was not good. Our server was pleasant, but she did not communicate well and was not knowledgeable about what was done at her own restaurant. I wanted to have a meat with some vegetables but preferred the chicken tenders over the fried chicken plate. I asked if it were possible to get the chicken tenders without the french fries and then just add two vegetables. She said that would be possible with just a small upcharge. I also asked her if they breaded and fried their own okra. She said that they did. So I ordered the okra and the macaroni and cheese along with the chicken tenders. What I ended up getting was a chicken tender basket with all the french fries that I did not want. And instead of a lunch portion of vegetables, I got a huge bowl of very bland and tasteless macaroni and cheese and a large basket of greasy fried okra. And they do not bread their own okra. It is brought in frozen and then fried. My husband had the chicken lunch plate with two vegetables. His food was also bland. The gravy for the mashed potatoes was terrible.
What made it worse is the man who said he was the manager came over to ask us how our lunch was. We told him that it was not exactly what we asked for, and that it was not very good. The entire time he was talking to us he had his hands in his pockets and then just kind of shrugged his shoulders and walked on. No offer of doing anything different for us.
So instead of paying for a lunch plate, which would include my chicken tenders and two vegetables, I was charged for an entire chicken tender basket and then $8.00 for two vegetables that were not good. This was not an “small upcharge”. Obviously, if we are in Montevallo again, we will choose a...
Read moreMain Street Tavern is absolutely amazing for two reasons. The first is definitely the owners! They are amazing people and know how to run a restaurant to perfection. The second is the restaurant itself! The atmosphere is perfect with a wide open concept and the service is great as well not to mention it’s right on Main Street. As far as food, my go to is the J Lawley. The cream sauce is absolutely amazing with shrimp nestled throughout. My daughter got it recently and was able to sub the shrimp with grilled chicken, so that’s a plus. My most recent selection was the Buffalo Chicken Burger. Now don’t let the name fool you since this is a chicken sandwich but it’s not just any buffalo chicken sandwich. It’s one of the best I have ever had and by far the biggest! Make sure to bring an extra bun in your back pocket because you will need it to finish this mammoth (yes, you really need an extra bun unless you want a double buffalo chicken sandwich)! We also ordered the Jumbo Fried Shrimp Platter with roasted garlic potatoes. We prefer grilled shrimp and that was not a problem even though the meal is fried shrimp. An absolutely amazing restaurant ran by some of the best people I know. And, if Montevallo is not in your area, then maybe Chelsea is! They have a sister restaurant in Chelsea that is just as amazing. Go see Station 31 Kitchen in...
