I don't live in Montgomery so I don't know the good places to eat and wouldn't have gone here if not for the number of rave reviews in Yelp. I am an adventurous eater. I like trying new places and love finding good "hole in the wall" restaurants. Joe's Again is definitely a hole in the wall. It is also popular given my time there today.
When you walk in the first impression is how small it is. There are only 5 tables. The biggest will sit 3 people. So most people come in and get their order to-go. The woman at the counter is as friendly and welcoming as I have seen in a long time. She just wanted to make everything right.
I took two of my team with me. I got the ribs, another got a polish sausage dog, the other got the Joe's burger. Let's start with the burger. First off, it was BIG. If you're really hungry, get this. The polish sausage was big as well. Both guys said they would come back to this place. My ribs were good but a little tougher than really good ribs should be. The BBQ sauce seemed to be from a bottle. Next time I will likely try the wings. There will definitely be a next time.
Joe's may not be in the best part of town. But they are right of I-65. If you don't stop here and try them out then you are missing out on some good cooking. For me, this is a come back restaurant!
Update Well, I did come back and this time I ordered the wings. They are a good size with a good amount of meat on them. There are lots of sauces to choose from. I went with the Joe's sauce. If he names it after himself then it must be special, right? It was medium-hot with a touch of smokiness to it. Like most people who like spicy food, I want a bite of heat, but not too much. The Joe's sauce was near the top of my personal heat scale.
I will order the wings again for my next visit. But, I will explore the various sauces to see if I can find a favorite.
Finally, the service from the cashier was just as good. This lady has a genuinely generous heart and makes me like Joe's Again even more. Great customer service isn't as common as it should be.
Bonus Tip: The bathroom light switch is outside of the bathroom, opposite the door. They like to turn off the light to save...
Read moreAMAZING STAFF & FOOD! Great first experience! Tonight was my 1st visit, & I’m so excited to add this place to our rotation!! FOOD: the amazing southern-cooked veggies are perfect for my vegetarian diet, not to mention healthier side options for my kids. They don’t have kids’ meals, but my two hungry, elementary kids could have split the cheeseburger meal. My daughter already had dinner so my son gobbled it all down himself, but they easily could have split it. I subbed the fries for corn on the cob (other veggie options for splitting). They had a board showing new menu items to include chicken & waffles, collards, add bacon... HOSPITALITY: I was escorted to my car by a large male “employee“ who is possibly the owner (although complete speculation...I could tell he’d been cooking for a while - possibly all day - & I was impressed with his handling, professionalism & communication re: the whole situations. It was dark (after 8 pm) when I was still inside. This employee noticed a man outside & therefore wanted to walk me out to the car. Sure enough, their was the man outside standing by my car. He saw the employee & immediately asked me for money. The employee firmly but effectively told the man to leave. He apologized & sincerely thanked me. It left me warmed, not alarmed. It’s such a humble little place that rings with perseverance, hard work & sincerity. I’m grateful to have finally tried this place & looking forward to...
Read moreI’ve been going to Joe’s since they’ve been in business. Their ribs, loaded baked potatoes and the Joe Burger always made my mouth water and my stomach full! I often get more than one thing because I can’t make a choice. The last three times that I’ve been have been horrible. The lady at the register was not welcoming like what I’m used to seeing there. The guy that used to work in there(I think his name was Q) and the younger brown skinned lady always greeted me as soon as I hit the door and already knew what I was going to order! A few months ago I got ribs. They tasted like they had been reheated from three days ago! I didn’t give up though, I went back and got a burger. It was big and sloppy but the meat was not the same patty Joes has always used. It was just ok. Today I had the loaded baked potato. The potato was the size of my hand cut in half and they spread the toppings all over it to make the plate look full! Usually that potato is so big you can barely close the plate and is definitely enough for two people! Not to mention the price has nearly doubled! I don’t know what’s going on but JOES IS...
