WARNING VERY, VERY LONG review.
The place seemed cozy, and that was as far as it went. Our server was very quick to indicate that she was only cheerful and gregarious when she was working because it meant money - and she said this several times during our brief interaction. Okie dokie........as a former waitress, barkeep, line cook, cashier, and hostess, I would say that it's wiser to keep one's big mouth shut, but...........it's 2025 and all courtesy, dignity, and protocol have long gone out the window.
The broccoli-cheddar soup was library paste. It was thick, grainy, and utterly lacking in any suggestion of "cheddar." Whomever made that soup didn't know how to make a solid roux, and it was simply atrocious. The sweet potato fries were edible with a spicy dipping sauce. The dinner "Special" was cheddar-bacon meatloaf with mashed potatoes and a vegetable. We apparently got the last 2 servings of the dinner special at 3:40 PM.
We also heard a conversation between two of the waitstaff in the kitchen with one of the women saying, "That is F&CKED UP" at least 3 times in less than 90 seconds and loud enough to be heard throughout the dining room by paying customers. Several patrons looked towards the kitchen in astonishment. CLASSY....so very classy. What kind of people talk like that when customers can clearly hear the conversation????
When the dinner plates came, another waitress brought them and cautioned us that the meatloaf was very hot and to be careful. She was obviously confused. The meatloaf was lukewarm, the mashed potatoes were boiling hot - literally, BOILING hot, and the vegetable of the day was lukewarm corn straight out of the can.
The meatloaf was dreadful - just, dreadful. There wasn't a suggestion of bacon OR cheddar in that awful mixture. It was dry, old, and smelled just like (no exaggeration) a can of Alpo dog food. It tasted just about as badly as it smelled.
The mashed potatoes were very thin and boiling hot because they had just been made using boiling water - dehydrated mashed potatoes, obviously, and too much water added with not butter or anything else to enhance the flavor of the bland slop.
As mentioned, the corn tasted just like it had been spooned out of the can. Again, no butter, no pepper..........nothing to make it remarkable.
The brown gravy was, as imagined, processed and not homemade.
When I couldn't eat any more of that tripe, I asked for a container - I intended to offer it to my pets. Worry not - I hadn't gone 3 miles before I stopped at a gas station and threw it out for the putrid aroma.
I paid the bill and left quickly. The time on the receipt was 4:16 PM. At 4:46 PM, I was screaming into the parking lot of a nearby fast food joint after having stopped to jettison the offending Alpo, zooming into a parking space, and slamming the vehicle into park. I ran into the place and made it just in time - no joke, it was just a hair away from being a complete and utter horror show.
I do not know how this establishment rates anything higher than 3.5 stars. Perhaps, it was a good place to eat some time ago. But, today, it is absolutely dreadful. ...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy wife and I walked in ahead of our party of four. The older short and grey haired woman greet us and asks how many was in our party we were waiting for my daughter in law and 1 year old granddaughter. My wife is disabled which was clearly obvious by the fact she had a permanent brace on the leg and walked in with a limp and cane. However, our greeter firmly instructed us that we need to stand and wait until the rest of our party of three adults and one infant has arrived. There were four tables clearly available. When we asked if my wife could maybe just sit at one of the tables, short hair grey woman said, āour policy is all parties must be present to sit.ā
So, after 20 minutes of my wife standing and increasingly annoyed that she was in pain and no one seemed to care. We watched our tables being given to families who walked in much later than we did. Grey hair lady was approached again and we let her know how unprofessional she was and how their policy was clearly a violation of ADA compliance. Here response shocked both of us. She suggested we go somewhere else if we didnāt want to respect their rules.
We were visiting the area and meeting our granddaughter for the very first time. We were highly recommend Dollyās and thought it would be a great atmosphere. We were so wrong. I couldnāt believe this day and age someone with ADA needs was told āgo somewhere else.ā We went to Perkins and had a blast. Not sure what gives your employees the right to talk to your patrons this way, but I plan on sharing this story in every possible place I can leave a review. Short hair gray old woman, she needs to be fired. If sheās the owner or this behavior and attitude towards customers is common practice, then your management needs to be fire. This was by far the most humiliating and unreal experiences Iāve ever had at a restaurant.
I DO NOT recommend this place until some deep and radical changes are implemented. Either way, I wonāt be returning and spreading the word to my family and friends who live in the area to avoid this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have always had great food and great service here. Until yesterday. The chili I ordered as an appetizer took forever to appear at our table. When it did, it came with the entire meal? The chili was nondescript in flavor, flat. My roast beef open faced sandwich had the toughest shoe leather beef I've ever eaten. My daughter's hamburger was ordered without onions, but came with onions. We couldn't just take them off as they were melted in place by the cheese. She had to wait a long time for a replacement. My daughter was almost to the point of tears with everything that was wrong. My other daughter was so upset by our mood, she didn't eat much, just picked at her food. The waitress we had was sent to serve other tables, so management did give us another waitress. This resulted in poor service for drink refills and just checking on us at the end of our meal. We asked for a take home box to take home our girls chicken tenders, but the box wasn't given to us. It was placed on a table next to us, no indication to us it was there, we happened to see it as we got up. All in all, if this were my first time there, I wouldn't go back. Was it waitress fault? Was it the kitchen's fault? Was it a help shortage? We don't know. We'll give it another try, but...
