The first time at this restaurant was because we wanted something different and it was a special occasion dinner, as we are from out of town. The service was fast, and the waitress was knowledgeable of the menus items, and was very friendly as well. For it being our first time at this restaurant, we were impressed with the menu items, and the quality as well,. Well, we went back on 1210/22 we had and ENTIRELY different experience... The service was not good, the atmosphere was negative, the air was heavy, thick with something felt in our bones. I will not pull out my "card" to say what I think it was, but there was maybe some hatrid there as well. There was a strong vivlbe that no one wanted us there, and it took everything in us to stay and not leave, but we knew that's what they wanted to happen, so we stayed. We are not locals of Montrose, but we do live in the area. Other customers AND most staff members made us feel uncomfortable with their body language and unfriendliness towards us. Everything we experienced this time around solidified it for us to cross this location off of our list. We will find another location to visit, and spend our money at, and hope for that staff to be friendly, and have a more inviting atmosphere that feels more warm and positive. And to the manager or owners, sorry for this review, but this atmosphere being able to exist has to be known and felt by everyone there and it is obviously approved of and is encouraged. Hopefully you can improve this atmosphere and the environment going forward in the future. 👎

This place is nothing to write home about. After reviewing the very short menus, we were surprised by the price point. It's expensive to eat here for a mid-grade restaurant. My daughters dish came out with a hair in it. The waiter quickly replaced it, but we did not receive a visit to our table, by the manager. We wouldn't have except a comp, if offered, but the gesture would have been appreciated. Overall the food lacked flavor and the presentation was poor, as-well-as the portions were small. Our multicolored brocolli was inedible and, I'm not totally sure, but the mashed potatoes may have been instant, gritty tasting. Not sure. If the Camp Robber wishes to maintain a 25-30 dollar per person average, they need an expanded menu, improvement in kitchen and management staff and a facelift, starting with refinishing or replacing the tables and chairs. Basically, lower their prices by 5-8 dollars per dish, or try harder. Making good food is easy. John Stokes

If I could give more than five I would. I have never enjoyed every single bite I've eaten at a restaurant more than I did tonight. The atmosphere was amazing and even though we stayed a wee bit late they were so kind about it. Tia specifically made the meal so one of a kind with her amazing energy and helpfulness. The food was awesome, the atmosphere was awesome, and they most likely gained lifetime customers. Edited to add that we came back a second time and man, just as amazing as the first. The food was honestly amazing, the service, and the laughs as well. Lisa was our server this time and she blew it out of the park. That meal was delicious and I definitely will be thinking about it!

UPDATE: I forwarded the lost email, along with a new email, directly to the owner of Camp Robber, Kim Volk, and was finally able to speak with her. It was a very pleasant conversation, not rushed. I appreciated her time and personal attention very much. She rendered the kind of customer service that goes above and beyond, and that restores the faith of an "old lady" like me who remembers the days of customer service being of utmost importance. I am compelled to change my rating based on my first experience, the phone conversation with Kim, and her follow-up. We are very much looking forward to giving Camp Robber another try.

August, 2023 I raved about this place to my son because I had one good experience there for breakfast a few years back. This time was completely different and ruined any memory of the first visit. I was so embarrassed that I took someone there!

We ate at the restaurant out on the patio and ordered extra food to go. Our wait times were completely unacceptable. People that arrived after us were served before us. The extra food that we had ordered to go, well in advance, seemed like it was never going to come. We sat there waiting for what seemed like forever after we finished eating.

Our waitress was ridiculously inattentive and unprofessional. She did not even check on us or refill our water. We had to ask other waitresses and busing staff to help us. We could not figure out what the problem was. We sat there and watched as waiters and waitresses ran back and forth checking on the patrons at their tables and making sure the people had everything they needed while we were being neglected.

I read other negative reviews that were answered by the owner asking people to please contact them directly rather than post a negative reviews, so I did. I contacted them via email a year ago. I never got a response. So now I am posting this well-earned, well-deserved, negative review.

The only reason that our dining experience was not completely horrible was the people around us out on the patio. The other customers were very friendly, and we had good conversations with them. That saved the atmosphere.

But we were hungry, tired of waiting, and very confused by the horrible...

I love it when things don't go as planned... well sometimes. Today was one of those days.

We were headed to Grand Junction for the Static-X concert at the Mesa Theater when everyone in the car seemed to get hungry simultaneously and discussion of where to eat ensued. We settled on two places, one after another, but both were closed. Luckily the third choice was open and we set course for Camp Robber.

It was easy to tell early in our visit that they had something going at this place simply by reading the menu. It took some time to narrow the options down but we did so over a medley of salsa/guacamole/queso and chips that were delicious while not being overly spicy. The Lemonade was good but was the least tantalizing item I enjoyed (and I enjoyed it all).

I went on to have a burger. Don't judge me. I haven't had a burger in several months and wanted one. They come with lettuce, tomato and pickle slices and I dressed mine up with avocado and jalapeños and a side of potato salad. The burger was on the rare side of the medium I requested, but that request was based on previous experiences at other burger joints. I'm glad it was "under" cooked because it certainly hit the spot.

Others in our group cleaned their plates of the Chicken Fried Chicken (x2) and Blue Corn Enchiladas before briefly considering the dessert menu. Already stuffed from lunch, we elected to forgo dessert and roll our way back to the car.

Service was very helpful, insightful, informative while never pressuring us to make a decision or wrap it up. If I recall the servers name, I will update this review, but they all seemed to have the same skill and patience running their respective areas of the dining room.

We are already looking forward to making it back to take them up on that...

Very disappointed me and my husband come here for our anniversary on valentines weekend. I was very upset beings how you guys are always out of everything we are wanting. Out of the special very early, out of our beer except half a glass that was served warm, out of stake..... had to get the more pricey one. I ordered the ribeye medium rare when I got it...I couldn't believe I was being charged $30.00 for such a thin, unappealing, overcooked piece of meat. My husband ordered a burger over medium he cuts it open and it was practically mooing at him, we tried to give another chance since last visit I got served the wrong burger I got a regular instead of an elk Burger.. and of course they were out of everything... Thought it was just a rough night we would give another chance but there we were again more disappointed than the last visit. We had to leave and go across the street to Chili's to get our food cooked right. I got a bigger stake cooked how I wanted it and at a cheap price. I wouldn't recommend paying the prices you guys ask for. My man works far too hard to be paying that much for mediocre food. A year ago I loved the place, now I'm just not seeing the worth in it for the price, even got a bad table right next to the door it was very cold. Sorry for the rant but this place was very special to me and my husband and everything that could have went wrong on our anniversary at this place most definitely did. And to say it doesn't make sense to my man that your half a glass of left over beer was warm sounds like it should be something that starts making sense when your beer is as bad as the food. Making a disparaging comment while apologizing to my husbands review blew my top so here's my two cents to add to your over priced menu I cook...
