Don Gilberto Mexican Food — Restaurant in Montrose

DO NOT GO HERE I recently went before closing time and they got my to go order wrong. By the time I got home and realized they gave me the wrong item it was 9pm and they were closed. There was no option to leave a voicemail. I was aware that they open early for a breakfast rush, so I decided to call at 10am so as not to interrupt their busy breakfast or lunch. When I called, a lady answered. I told her that I had been given the wrong combo the night before, and that I would like either a refund or a replacement meal. She became very rude and stated that I should have called before they closed. I explained that I had gone to pick up my order prior to the closing but only realized the error when I got home, at which point they had already closed. She continued to speak to me very irritated and condescending. She said that I would have to bring the food (which by the way tasted HORRIBLE ----i had tried to eat it but couldn't) to prove to her that it was indeed their food. I told her that she could just have told me she would look in to the matter, speak with the evening crew and see if there had been a mixup. She told me that if I didn't bring the food back, she would not address my problem. I asked to speak with the manager. She said that she was the owner. She was completely rude and not interested in resolving my problem. So I brought the food back (see attached) and was met at the counter by a young man. I asked to see the manager or the owner. He told me that he had been instructed to deal with me, and that I would not be able to speak with a manager or owner. He asked for the bag of day old food and handed me a handful of cash. I told him that the cash did not represent what I had paid for the meal, as it did not include the tax that I had paid. The young man stated that he was instructed to only give me the menu price and that I was not going to be able to speak with anyone in charge.

So if you want dogfood quality food, order the 'Superfries', and if you want to be treated like a criminal, unworthy of even common decency and professionalism, Don Gilbertos is the...

Oh my gosh, this was so delicious. It was my first time eating here and I’ve been in Montrose over two years. I wish I would’ve gone sooner. lol I got a shredded chicken burrito that came with rice and beans inside. It was seasoned perfectly, and was kind of saucy and super yummy. I think the tortilla was homemade. Really good. I feel like this is more authentic Mexican food than some places I’ve been at. There is absolutely no atmosphere in the restaurant so don’t go there for that. I did not get my burrito smothered and honestly I didn’t need to. The burrito was so nice and juicy inside. It was so good . I took it to go. They gave me two green sauces which were delicious as well. When I got home, I realized how big this burrito is. I could only eat half of it. I saved half for later. It came to a little over $10 with tax and tip. I will definitely go back and I highly recommend...

Food is really good but their bean and cheese burrito is $7.25 : $8+tax and being from Southern California I absolutely cannot. Its offensive. Its a nice size but their carnitas, fish and chicken burrito are also $7.25. Its highway robbery. I think La Cocina’s In Telluride is 6.99 and its all organic. At the higher end fast Mexican they are no more then $5-$6 and thats high yet they are made with far better ingredients. I’ve been eating at Don Gilbertos for years and always loved it and its even better / tastier when they revamped everything. But revamping their former Bean and Cheese price of $4.99 to $7.25 moves me to internet trolling to give a one star. But if you are wondering if you should try it or not- its good.
