We went to the Stone House on Sunday night (9/11/22) for a 7pm dinner reservation. We thought we would attend again after we stopped in following a loop trip through Ridgway on our vacation last year. At that time, we had a marvelous experience and thought the food was excellent. However, as soon as we came through the door there was something amiss. After being seated, we waited an extremly long time for our food to arrive -- it was 8:15 to be exact. The manager in the black-and-white striped blouse never once stopped by to ask how things were (especially considering the long wait), even though she passed right by us multiple times. She then sat down at the bar to do personal time. While the food was okay, and the server/bartender was exceptionally trying as hard as she could considering the dysfunction of the circus behind the scenes) this smacked of a restaurant that could use a shake-up by Gordon Ramsey. My partner with me that night has a long history in the restaurant industry--currently in an upscale establishment in Denver, but beginning his career at Commander's Palace in New Orleans. Knowing what can go on behind the scenes, our experience was marked by a restaurant whose team is dysfunctional and employees are not willing to help each other, nor is the manager interested in supporting the employees. The manager's job is to greet each table--this manager was checked out entirely. Unless this place is reformed it will continue its downward spiral and end up in the inevitable restaurant grave with innumerable other establishments who think that the taste of the food is all that matters for success. However, the ambience so coloured the taste of our food that we will not be back the next time we are visiting family on this side of...
Read more2:38 am and I am still feeling the affects of the Stonehouse. Absolutely horrifying foods. It had gone downhill with the previous owner and we had not returned but some friends wanted to do an early Mother's Day meal here so we thought we would give it a go...MISTAKE ! The waitress told me their burgers were "AMAZING" so I went for one...my wife had the Grilled Salmon and our friends some salads. How I wish I had that awful, cheap, non-inventive salad....my poor wife does too. The burger was OLD and tasteless, the bun was OLD and soggy, the fries were from a bag and frozen and I think cooked hours before they were served...my wife's salmon was tasteless as well and she said after eating it she was done with salmon for a looooong time; both of us choked down our food and we both were not able to finish. The service was better than good, the restaurant pleasant, but the food was a step above Sonic and Sonic has them beat with freshness and taste. (what an insult to Sonic). Never again! My belly is turning from that OLD, sour burger meat...I knew I was gonna get sick from it...my belly looks like a swollen, beached whale...I was being polite by eating it but I should have sent it back and refused anything else...rather than paying for a meal that obviously has made me sick, I should have sent it all back and we should have all gone to Sonic. What a disaster! Stonehouse has now been added to the loooong list of disgusting, sub-par restaurants. Stonehouse was bad before, but now it is plain awful! -- This will be long and miserable night, I wonder what end will explode first...Tums is not helping and my stomach looks like one of those Africa fund-raising commercials...What a mistake,...
Read moreWe never review a service with out giving it at least 2 chances. First time , Dinner menu, we found the food to be very good, pricy but good. However, the service was slow (place was not full at all) and the waitress was very cool. Our bill for 3 people was $150 dollars and her tip was 30 bucks. We received no where near $30 dollar service. Second time we went, different wait staff and lunch menu. When we Came in the owner was sitting at the bar hanging out having lunch. He told us he would go find his hostess, which he did, instead of seating us himself. We had a different server from the first time but she was just as cool as if we had disturbed her at something important. She had 2 other tables one of which left as soon as we arrived so she was not over worked. When we decided to order desert, we had to go to the bar and ask for our server to come take out order. She remained cool until the end of the meal when suddenly she got friendly. Perhaps the $75 lunch check had something to do with that. About the food for lunch, sons steak was very good, I had the roast beef which I did not eat because it was very fatty and tough, husbands fish and chips were average and small portioned. Long story short, for the prices the Stone House charge the service and meals should be 5 star every time you dine, it is not. We will not go again and will spend our eating out...
