Don't even get me started on this place. I know a lot of people like the service and the food but you might want to sit down. To start, I used to work in this deli and the horrors I saw... Mold in the ice machine, nothing is cleaned with soap all just hot water, owner claims she bleaches the whole place on Sundays but I doubt it i've planted things that wouldn't be there if she did. I would scrape lard off the floor with a dough cutter, rinse it with hot water, then put it BACK with all the other dough cutters they use for food prep. They have their son working in there underage and he has the worst attitude (Don't blame him!) and if you're thinking about leaving a tip just know it doesn't go to any of the workers. They say they do that so "They can throw holiday parties." Honestly the mold in the ice maker is enough for me but if you're a fan of the crumb donut here's a fun one, they take old donuts and break them up into bits, add some sugar and spices, and then leave the lard soaked cardboard box of them on top of the oven uncovered for DAYS. Then they use it as a topping, yummy! The way they treat their staff and children working is sick. I left that job in high school and when I went in she said I looked "Different." I said thank you and she replied, "I didn't say you looked good." for a 50+ woman to talk to young adults/teenagers like that is sad. OH and the swamp fish tank?! What the hell? You can't even see...
Read moreThis place is PERFECT for anyone on a roadtrip driving through! The sandwiches are the same price as fast food and come at a comparable speed as a fast food joint, but the quality and taste is that of a home cooked meal. The breakfast sandwiches are the BEST. My husband and I roadtrip a lot, and we're always trying mom and pop coffee shops and diners to break away from the monotonous McDonald's "value" menu loop. This is the wisest roadtrip stop on the Western Slope. The eggs are cracked right in front of you, the sausage isn't that dark brown precooked patty you remember from your school cafeteria. It's a link, sliced in half and grilled to order placed on fresh baked bread.
AND OF COURSE, the donuts! Imagine a soft pillow center deep fried to a golden brown without the soggy oily taste, just a complementary crisp, and a thin not-too-sweet glaze that flakes lightly as you bite down. That's them.
Obviously, you should top this off with a Boba Tea. The selection is very nice, and the pearls are soft and perfectly chewy--not overcooked and starchy.
The only way to beat this breakfast is to make it yourself. If your roadtrip budget is more Gas Station coffee and bag of mini donuts instead of IHOP (like ours usually is, thanks D. Ramsey) then you have to try this, and add it to your rest destination map. ...
Read moreThe Main Man and Me came to the area for friends, gnarly views, radical camping, and the surrounding forests. This place goes on forever.........and ever........oh yessss....... FOOD! We wanted to experience the best of the local shindigs as the cherry on top of an already out-of-this-world sensory overload we've surrendered to endure. Tough life, I know.
Tita, Jackie, and Kyla are the Croissant Ninjas of the Tundra. These women make some pretty awesome sacrifices to serve their community. My guy and me had the bacon, ham, egg, and cheese croissant with a buttermilk glazed cake doughnut every. single. time. All the hot meats and gooey cheese tucked in a warm, slightly crisped croissant shell, cut in half. Yes, I enjoy the fancy cut. We also had the blueberry, coffee cake, and brownie muffins! Montrose Doughnut and Deli is owned by a man who gave a portion of his life to serve his country, is a family business, and bears the mark of a true, local spot.
Go in with good vibes and have a taste! Share Life if you have time because Montrose Doughnut and Deli is way more than just another place to eat and to be served. It is a treasure for their family, and they willingly share their skillz and their time with...
