i was looking forward to try this restaurant based on reviews and photos. the ambiance is great and gives a relaxed, rustic feel. like a refined Applebee’s/neighborhood bar and grill with it’s wooden furniture, beautifully lit bar area, and TVs mounted against the walls featuring various sporting events.
we started out strong with the appetizers: spiked calamari and honey bbq wings. but then we waited a long time for our entrees, which i was confused about since it wasn’t that busy for lunch. when our food finally came, i was disappointed. i personally prefer crispy fries, but mine were soggy and greasy. salmon burger lacked flavor and could have been paired with a nice spicy sauce instead of just tartar sauce. chicken tacos had disproportionately more toppings than chicken. fish and chips had big portions of fish, but the batter was too salty.
we were unsatisfied with the entrees but we asked for dessert, a shot at redemption. it took a while for our server to come by so we could ask for the dessert menu. granted, there were more people coming in, but we hadn’t seen our server since she gave us our drinks at the beginning of the meal. after getting the dessert menu, we waited another 15 minutes before we decided we’d just get dessert somewhere else. we tracked someone down and asked for the check since we no longer wanted to wait. he was kind and offered to pay for dessert, but we just wanted to leave.
maybe it was an off day/lunch service. i would go back to try the octopus since it’s received...
Read moreMy wife and I went last Saturday, Jan 6. It was my first time and her second. I really loved it. She gave it a solid 2 thumbs up both times. I'm a bit of a tough critic and I really couldn't find anything to complain about this place. Service was great (Cythia). Food came out hot and quick. I had the fried chicken entree. I really enjoyed it. The portion was perfect and I went home with a leftover piece. Each piece was meaty and definitely breaded and prepared in house. They were was crispy and not greasy.
For an appetizer I had the wings. Try them with Alabama white sauce it was very good.
My wife enjoyed her salmon entree and appetizer rice ball.
Beer selection was perfect mix of Lagers, IPAs and even several stouts.
For money value it was above the mark. I felt I paid what I've paid anywhere else and the food was better then a few other local places that come to mind. So very good value.
The food here isn't average local tavern / pubs fare. I would definitely NOT categorize the food as eclectic. I would said it's tavern / pub but they've upp'ed the game quite a bit.
I'm thrilled to have a good place to go and not break the bank while having a excellent meal.
BTW Music wasn't loud. I thought it was the right level.
I loved Poor Henry's and was sad to see it close but I feel better knowing that this is a solid...
Read moreCame is for an early dinner. 5 People, so we ordered appetizers and drinks, The beers were awful, mashing pumpkin, no flavor, blood of unicorn, red ale, was very IPA like, some tastings of 4 others, we gave up. Ordered a cocktail, Wall Street, came in a small old style champagne glass, while strong, overpowered by cocoa bitters. Not good. Flatbreads were the best of the show. Pear and Brie, awesome, margarita great, calamari, way overcooked, and served with some sweet marmalade like substance, horrible. The dinners came, pork belly sandwich. Not sure what they call pork belly, but this was not it. The chips that same with it tasted like old oil was used, and then let the chips sit out for a few days, again, horrible, side of fries, they forgot, so they rushed, under cooked and soggy, everyone else had brown crispy fries. Again, horrible. The restaurant looked great, newly done, clean, and we thought had potential. OH the liquor shelves, one side the shelves are bending down, we were waiting to see bottles fall or slide off, that would be sad to see good whiskey destroyed, before it had a chance to be ruined in the drinks list. We will not be back for...
