Mama Katie’s is hands down one of the best breakfast spots I’ve been to in a long time. It has that perfect blend of homestyle cooking and diner-style comfort that’s hard to find in the Cornelius area. We actually drove out here because there just aren’t any true diners nearby, and it was absolutely worth it.

I ordered the Backwoods Benedict — a biscuit with sausage, poached egg, and country gravy on top (you get two of them) — and it was amazing. I also got hash browns with onions and cheese added, and they were cooked perfectly. The French toast was delicious, my girlfriend’s omelet was great, and everything tasted fresh and hearty. The bacon was probably the weakest part of the meal (about a 6.5/10), but it was still decent. Everything else was easily an 8–9/10.

The portions are generous — one of those meals where you clean your plate and then want to go home and nap. The service was friendly and attentive, about an 8/10, and the overall experience was easily a solid 9/10. Prices were very reasonable for the amount of food we got.

The outside doesn’t look like much (it’s in what looks like an office-style building), so don’t let that fool you. Once you’re inside, the food and atmosphere definitely give you that family-style, diner feel.

Have been going to breakfast and lunch since they opened. Love the food, great staff, always polite and welcoming. Owners are so pleasant and come out asking how things are. Great little family restaurant But that’s where it ends. Be prepared for a few who think they can push people back in line because they want a booth or maybe have a personal space issue with someone standing near their table and really don’t care that others have been waiting while they complain and put the staff in an awkward position , It’s a shame so many feel entitled who dine there.
