Overall, decent Indian cuisine and good ambience but needs a professional manager.
Good: Good food and good service. The place is well maintained. Pleasing decorum. A decently stacked bar and clean restrooms. We stopped here for dinner in route to finger lakes, and it turned out to be a good choice. Our server was polite and proficient.
Bad: When the bill arrived, we noticed every item was charged 2 dollars above the price listed on menu. Puzzled, we cross-checked with the menu that we had and then called the server. The nice guy, he immediately called the manager - the lady from the front desk.
She spent the next 10 minutes explaining to us that we were mistakenly given "old menu" and that prices had changed a few years ago and how they can't afford the old prices and so on. We were quite amused by the whole "you were given old menu with wrong pricing, no big deal, pay up per our new menu" kind of attitude but quietly paid and left.
The manager had not been given the professional training to understand that customers order based on the price that they see on the menu that they are handed and that from a bill of ~72 USD, adjusting 6-8 dollars is often done with a smile by most professional diners. Most good diners would go far beyond, and with a asmile and an apology if they are shown billing mistake or discrepancy.
Ugly: No apology for overbilling. No understanding that customers can't be made to pay for hotel's mistake. Totally...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI usually don't write reviews unless it's really important to let others know about how good or bad a place is. This particular place's experience is the worst I have ever had. First thing to notice about this place is the rude staff. They are super grumpy and treats you like they are doing you a favor by offering you free food. The prices are exorbitant for the quality of food and service they provide. We ordered 3 starters and 3 main course and two lassi to end our dinner. To our surprise, lassi came first and after a while starters. Starters were below average and at least eatable. Then we had to wait for 30 min and enquire 2-3 times about our main course. By then our appetite was pretty much dead. Then arrived the main course in it's full glory. Veg biyani and veg thali. The veg biryani was simply some hot n sour sauce partially mixed with half cooked veggies and rice. A look at this biryani caused so much trauma that I might never order a veg biryani in my lifetime. The thali's curries were mediocre and nothing was worthy eating. After wasting 2 hours of our time on a nice Sunday evening, we have to leave disappointed not eating anything. To our surprise, the hotel staff took the feedback very personally and started to defend themselves saying each hotel taste is different and we are at fault as we didn't like the food. Slow claps for our stupidity. Save your time, money and look for some...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSeeing these reviews I can only derive one conclusion. NEPA has very few options for Indian cuisine. This was our second time there and again walked away disappointed.
My first concern is that the spice range is wildly inconsistent. My previous visit I ordered spicy and it was very very spicy. I love spicy but it was too much. This time I ordered medium and there was no spice whatsoever.
The food is quite bland which is amazing for Indian food. I will compliment them for their meet preparation. My lamb was very tender and my wife's chicken was very well prepared. We ordered the fried fish appetizer and it was juicy and well seasoned. Really could have used a nice sauce though. The ice cream was awful. I expected a creamy ice cream but instead got nothing but ice crystals. It was more like a snow cone than ice cream cone. I took two bites and left the rest. A good waiter would have noticed, nope not our guy.
The restaurant is quite dingy...very clean but their choices of furniture IS bizarre. When you walk in it smells of cigarette smoke I'm guessing which is lingering from years ago.
Most things can be made up with a friendly staff. Amber does not have that. Our waiter never bothered to...
