After hearing countless rave reviews about Bombay Indian Grill being the "best" Indian food in Morgantown, my husband and I were excited to try it for our Mother's Day takeout. Unfortunately, our experience was shockingly bad and left us incredibly disappointed and still hungry.
To start, the Chicken Tikka Masala, which we both ordered, was the worst I've ever had at a restaurant. The sauce was watery and lacked the rich, flavorful depth I expect from this dish. My garlic naan was also stale and chewy, a far cry from the fresh, pillowy bread it should be.
Beyond the poor quality of the food, the portion sizes were shockingly small, especially considering the price. For $42, we received two meager portions of chicken and rice and the stale garlic naan. I'm still hungry after finishing my entire meal, a stark contrast to other local Indian restaurants like Fresh Mint, where the portions are so generous I usually have leftovers.
The most disgusting part of our experience, however, was discovering a hair in my husband's Chicken Tikka Masala. This is completely unacceptable and a serious food safety concern.
Adding insult to injury, when I called the restaurant to inform them of our disappointing first experience – specifically mentioning the hair and the stale naan – their resolution was for me to drive back to the restaurant (a 20-minute drive each way) for a replacement plate. This is not an acceptable solution for a first-time customer who received substandard and potentially unsanitary food. Proper customer service would have involved a more considerate and convenient resolution, especially given the circumstances.
Overall, our first experience with Bombay Indian Grill was a major letdown. The poor food quality, minuscule portions for the price, and the appalling discovery of a hair in our meal, compounded by the dismissive customer service, means we will not be returning and cannot recommend this restaurant. Perhaps we did get a "dud" order, but the way our concerns were handled was equally...
Read moreThe food has gone severely downhill over time. I remember enjoying coming here during undergrad but now the food is very watered down and tasteless. After putting this food on the plate, i had to pour out a significant amount of water and all that is left is chicken. Perhaps it’s the carry out specifically that has decreased in quality but in COVID times this is inexcusable. I’m done coming here, I will be going to Fresh Mint instead. You should be ashamed of charging this much for what basically amounts to chicken soup instead of tikka masala.
EDIT: As a reply to the condescending owner(s) of this restaurant, I picked up my food directly from your restaurant so don’t try to pass this on to Doordash/Grubhub. I purchased a tray of Tikka Masala, as I have from Desi restaurants for years. These are not problems I’ve noticed from other desi restaurants even after COVID. I’ve made better tikka masala from a glass jar from Kroger. The food was absolutely tasteless, and never in my 22 years of life have I ever been more disappointed of Indian food. To reply to your insinuation that I, an incredibly busy graduate student, am on a secret payroll for a restaurant is laughable. I’d love to see some money come my way since I’m apparently employed now. I mentioned them by name because its either you guys or them in town, obviously. I had their food recently and it was far superior. The correct way to respond to genuine customer complaints is to apologize and try to make amends, not attack unsatisfied customers. Shame on you and let this be a lesson to potential customers as to the lack of respect Bombay has for...
Read moreBombay use to be my favorite restaurant and I would eat here multiple times a month for the past 4 years however the past few times I have ordered from Bombay through Grubhub they have cut the sizes in half if not less and the Grubhub orders are different from walk ins. The quality was horrible and my food was delivered cold even though the restaurant delivers its own food. I stated this in a complaint on my Grubhub order after ordering bombay multiple times without complaining about the quality and received even less than the half so I asked for a refund through Grubhub. I then reordered today and they refused to make my order but still took my money on Grubhub. When I called the restaurant and learned they would not be making it, I asked for my refund only to be hung up on and my phone number blocked. I then called using my sisters phone only to be hung up on 3 times and told the owner would “call me back” the third time I was hung up on and the women on the phone told me she “was not dealing with it and had nothing to do with my order”instead of them simply canceling my Grubhub order. I then had to dispute the charge with Grubhub and my credit card company to receive my refund but then was told a “driver was assigned” 2 hours after placing my order when Grubhub finally got through to them. The restaurant’s food use to be delicious but is now small servings and watery for the same price. Bombay is trying to scam its customers and lost 7 loyal ones with...
