I’d like to start with saying that the bulkogi food truck is my favorite one around. When the restaurant opened up in Boxyard I was super excited. I’ve so far been there twice. Where the experience doesn’t quite live up to expectation is the DIY form of ordering. I don’t mind entering in my order into a kiosk, however when the restaurant is out of its main food items (Bibimbap) and it doesn’t say that on the screen I’m standing there wondering what’s going on. I had to ask the staff if I was missing something. When I inquired one person didn’ really know why it was missing and another man leaning against the wall sipping from a soda bottle mumbled “we are out of that”. After my order came up I asked if some covers could be placed over the bowls so I could take it home. I heard the same fellow mumbling to the other employee that “we don’t put covers on the bowls” and directed me to the stack of paper bags (as I had to bag it myself too). There are some other patrons there that didn’t know where to throw away their trash. The same man directed them to the trash cans outside. They also appeared to be quite hot as the AC really didn’t appear to be functioning very well. Upon my departure I was greeted with a fairly inauthentic “have a nice day” as I walked out fairly bamboozled by the experience. I don’t mind non-traditional forms of ordering but this one just seems to be completely non-customer oriented. I also got the impression that it made it awkward for the people working there.
Anyway that’s just my perspective. I’d love to see this place succeed because I’m a big fan of this establishment and the family behind it. I’ll check back in a couple weeks to see how things are going. I’m fully willing to amend my review as necessary.
(Upate 5/2024): I've ordered here a number of times and I am accustomed to the ordering process. Quality is consistently high and portions are very generous. They offer great order customization as well. Overall a solid place with a relatively one-of-a-kind...
Read moreI absolutely enjoyed my experience at Bulkogi! Walking in, you are immediately told by several signs to order on the kiosk. I like that you are able to customize your entrees. I decided to get two of their spicy chicken tacos without tomato. While I waited, I checked out their sauces and decided to get their spicy aioli and bb sauce. The bb sauce was spicy and smoky and mixed well with the spicy aioli. The aioli alone was amazing. Just enough heat and spice, but super savory and took me to another place! Wow! I went back and got more of the aoili, that is how much I liked it!
My two tacos came out quick and pipping hot! They give you a generous amount of chicken along with the toppings. I tried the tacos solo and then with the sauce. Wow! It was so amazing! Every spicy and savory bite again took me to a better place. I could've probably eaten three or four more, but the two tacos were just amazing and so filling! All I needed was something cool to cool me down after all that spiciness! I will be back here the next time I am in boxyard! I highly recommend that this be on your list!...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite barbecue restaurants as a vegetarian. I love their tofu. I’ve now had it in a burrito bowl and a quesadilla—both excellent. Servings are enormous, so I get two meals from one.
At this location, you order and pay on a tablet, then pick up your food from a counter. Tablet and counter are both inside the shipping container (the Boxyard is made of adapted shipping containers piled up cleverly), which also has a small dining area. You can wait inside for your name to be called, or you can wander around until you get a text.
It’s very efficient, even on weekday lunchtimes when RTP office workers form a line out the door!
Today was busy like that and one part of my order was wrong. I didn’t realize until I got home (I should always check carry-out orders in the restaurant!), but I replied to the “your order is ready” text and got a very polite response and a refund within 15 minutes! This kind of customer service more than makes up...
