This little spot is surprisingly comfy with lots of heated outdoor seating as well as an indoor bar and dining nook. In addition to the wide and tasty brew selection, the hidden gem here is an awesomely talented back of house team slinging some very tasty 'za to go with your brews. Executive chef James Johnson rises his own impressively puffy, light and toothsome dough as the base for some delicious creations topped with local ingredients like Lady Edison ham and Fox & Forage gourmet mushrooms.
The one maybe downside for some (that I don't actually think is a downside at all) is that the light, tasty bread base for the pizza eats more like a really good flatbread than a standard pizza crust. This is not a thin, greasy, Domino's Delivers kind of pie. Spoiler alert: it's much better! It's definitely delicious, but it isn't a traditional crust by any means, so purists may be surprised if they go into it with expectations of the humdrum.
I've always been a fan of coffee + food, so I tried Fullsteam's collaboration with Black and White roasters, Coffee Is For Closers. Very tasty and a surprisingly good match for the satisfyingly thick and tall squares of rich, cheesy pizza bread. This ain't your school cafeteria pizza though, so get on down and grab a slice...
Read morePIZZA + BEER.......Turkey pesto & Cesar salad for starters The turkey pesto was good, but the bacon and bread was over cooked. Instead of it being arugula, it was spring mix salad in there the pesto must have been homemade due to it missing the smoke flavor from the nuts & basil flavor wasn't there at all but the color was. As for the Cesar salad hunny, the cheese needs to be fresh. The dressing was absolutely amazing, but it was over peppered but the lemon in there gave it an amazing zing they should definitely scale back in the pepper. They have glass bottle drinks, which are a plus!
Everything is over priced they don't offer help to the elderly nor the handicap
RPT UNCORKED......Amazing selection for us wine LOVERS. But the owner isn't that knowledgeable. She has to read the labels in order to know if it's dry, semi sweet, or sweet. But because I know wine and is a real connoisseur, I was disappointed.
BUZZY BAKERY......OVERPRICED!!!!!!!!!!!! the lemon blueberry is my go-to, but this doesn't have the tartness of the lemon to balance out with the sweetness of the blueberries, plus the cupcakes are dry....
Read moreWe spent some time at Boxyard on a Saturday and decided to have Fullsteam’s pizza as an early dinner. Spent around $30 on a whole pizza, which is incredibly expensive — especially for what we got. The pizza is made with sourdough starter, which results in a fluffy base and slightly crisp crust. We got the Forager (sweet onion, green onion, mushrooms, roasted garlic base), and the toppings were few and far between. I questioned whether there were actually any mushrooms on the pizza. Either the cheese or pizza itself was also quite greasy. All in all, underwhelming and definitely not close to being worth $30. For around $40, we can get two pies from a pizzeria in downtown Durham and have enough leftover pizza for another meal. If you want to spend money at Boxyard, I’d suggest skipping food and buying the outrageously expensive drinks, instead.
EDITED TO ADD: I paid cash for this meal, so this is not about getting a refund. This is just an honest opinion on the experience and...
