Unfortunately I will not be coming back.
I came in tonight and asked for my order when the server arrived, and it came back to me all wrong. For starters I only ordered one egg. Second, as my bf pointed out, this has to be the fifth time we've gotten cold soggy toast. Every kitchen I've ever worked in has either had a person dedicated to making toast, or a cook with good time management skills. That is not true of this kitchen. Third, I ordered American cheese on my potatoes, but I got them with cheddar, I can't stand the texture of cheddar cheese on my hash browns because it gets clumpy and nasty, as it was. The sausage links were great. Next we need to discuss the server. Sweet girl, but not only did she not catch the mistakes made, but she didn't provide us with silverware. I had to ask her for it. She walked away and came back, with another pair of straws, and no silver. As if we were meant to eat the already cold, soggy, and misprepared food with our hands now as well?? We're both sitting here depressed. $30 we could have spent better, we decided to go here in memory of our best friend Chris Heller (who just passed away from brain cancer last week), who convinced us to come here for the first time together with him five years ago. Back then the rye bread was actually dark rye, and delicious. Mike Collis (Scrollis) was the cook and a fine cook, at that, even if he's mentally ill. The toast never came out soggy, if the kitchen messed something up the waitress noticed (btw that waitress was there tonight working the bar area and is still, in our opinion, a fine waitress and woman and I wish we would have gotten her instead) and we would have never known, and we were quite aware why this place was here. It's definitely not what it used to be. Wasting money hits different when it's on food you've been craving and it...
Read moreMy fiancé and I have eaten at this restaurant twice and have also had their catering at a wedding once. This most recent trip was for a tasting for our wedding, and Jim was very hospitable and able to answer all of our questions. The other staff was friendly as well.
As for the food, I absolutely love the mac and cheese! It's creamy and simply delicious. The mashed potatoes and gravy have a really great taste. However, for our wedding we'd like them a little chunky, but Jim said they can do that! How awesome is that? We also really enjoyed the pulled pork with BBQ sauce. It is a different style than my fiancé and I are used to but we really loved it (green peppers and onions are added for flavor). As for the fried chicken, the breading is crispy, but not dry. My fiancé loved this as well. It had a great taste. Finally, the green beans. These could have used more salt but I am a salt finatic when it comes to green beans, so it's no surprise that I think that haha.
Moving on to the atmosphere and pricing, it's a very welcoming and "home-y" environment (my favorite!). The staff is so sweet and it's really just a chill place to be. The pricing is very reasonable, especially when looking at catering for a wedding. They are basically all-inclusive regarding the catering services that they offer, and they are willing to change pretty much anything to meet your needs.
All of the aforementioned points of discussion have been my and my fiancé's opinions, but I've only heard good things about this restaurant. My fiancé and I are highly considering them for our wedding. I recommend that you try this lovely establishment out if you...
Read moreI've had the pancakes, french toast, eggs chicken fried steak, hashbrowns biscuit & sausage biscuits. The pancakes tastes ok, they are good size. Most places (Perkins, IHOP) serve small saucer size pancakes. Not here. I'm usually a pancake person, but I think like the French toast better than the pancakes. Everything else I listed tastes good. I don't care for what they call scrambled eggs. They taste good enough but they are flat & look more like fried than scrambled. They are definitely not fluffy eggs. I was told it's b/c they are made on a grill. Even still, they CAN be made fluffy or at least fluffy compared to flat. I've done it. I guess cooking them flat on the grill is easier. If I was cooking a bunch of eggs all day maybe I'd choose that option too. Sometimes service is a little slow even when they are not real busy. Could be b/c you walk in & seat yourself so they don't always see you when you sit down (they have tall booths). The staff seems friendly & nice enough. Some are just more personable than others. However, we have never encountered anyone (staff or customer) being rude. As for wheelchair accessible, there are 2 tables where you may be able to place a wheelchair. If you are in a wheelchair I was suggest parking in the back. If you have someone w/ you I would suggest having them go in 1st to see if either of those areas are available or possibly call ahead & advise you need a wheelchair...
