So I came in town, and was looking to kill some time. Looking for unique places, I saw Goodies on my Google search and decided to visit there. When I walked in, nobody but the staff was inside. So of course I got a little nervous, but decided to proceed. It looks like it can sit a lot of patrons with a bar for drinks. I also saw a note about entertainment being available, so it looks like they may have a band or two coming through. The gentlemen was very patient with me as I wanted to look over the menu. I know some bbq spots shred their brisket mixing both ends, so I asked if they did that and they yes. However, I asked to see if I can get more of the fatty point instead and the kitchen was cool with it.
I ordered some whiting, beef brisket, beans and mac. These days when you ordered fried fish it's becoming hard to visually confirm the fish you ordered. That wasn't the case hear. It had the look and smell of whiting. The seasoning was a little light on the fish, but it had good flavor. So let's talk about the brisket. When it came out, it wasn't shredded at all. And I can see a lot of the fat they added to my portion. My goodness the rendered fat was oozing all over. Whomever cooked this knows their way around some brisket. It had great flavor, though I will say I wasn't picking up a lot of smoke in the flavor. I was getting more of a baked brisket in each bite, which in most cases would turn me off as I expect more smoke from a bbq restaurant. But the meat was so tender and juicy, if it was baked I'm not mad at it. Mac and cheese is hit or miss (mostly miss) at bbq spots, but thank goodness their mac was a huge hit. All the right cheeses, cheese pull, and the macaroni was seasoned. The beans were a hit too, though I was thrown off by pieces of pepperoni in my beans. Brisket in the beans is the way to go in my opinion.
By the time I was ready to leave, I noticed that many folks started to come in , so my earlier concerns was addressed. I'm glad they showed up on my Google search, and the next time I come to Cincinnati Ill be sure to stop by.
Side note, I didn't realize this until after the fact but since you pay in advance there is no way to tip them. Not sure why it wasn't offered when I paid, but it would be nice to do so. Next time Ill bring cash to leave at the table. Might help if they have a tip...
Read moreVery disappointed with the lack of customer service I experienced. The cashier even went as far as yelling at me walking up to me almost getting in my face I had to take a step back. I asked to speak to the manager that never happened all I got was no eye contact and being told that she was busy. The greens and green beans taste like they came straight out of a can. The pies sweet potato and chess were delicious and the turkey ribs were good. None of them were wearing face masks they weren't at all trying to control social distancing or how many people were in the store at one time. They were literally telling everyone the wait was 40 minutes like they had no concept of time. The lady up front hostess or cashier had no idea of what food they had everything I asked her she had to run to the back to ask someone else. They just didnt have any consideration for a new customer trying to support their black owned business. Went I asked the lady about the sauce cups she said she didnt have any control over it so I asked to speak to the manager thats when she said she was busy and asked me if I wanted a refund or not I will definitely never come back I think Ill try just q in next time I want bbq I travelled all the way from hamilton ohio it definitely wasnt worth my time or money. Instead of constantly taking orders and having people wait so long maybe you all can try either getting more accurate wait times or stop taking orders until u complete the ones you already have and definitely stop serving whatever that was you all call greens they tasted more like over cooked spinach. Way to many customers for just one person up front but she definitely needs a class or something on how to deal with customers she takes her frustration out on us and...
Read moreWhile I love their ribs, and have been a customer since even before they moved to their current location, I won't be back. Goodies has always had a problem with service. Actually getting your ribs can take a while, as in hang around for a half hour and you finally will be rewarded with the deliciousness you bought. But the chaos and delay has become unreasonable.
Yesterday late morning as soon as they opened I placed an online order to pick up at 4 pm. Calling it in was useless as no one answers the phone. Knowing I would have some kind of wait I arrived at 3:40 and got in the long line. Around a dozeen people were sitting or standing around waiting to get their orders as I inched my way to the front of the line. At 4:03 I actually was at the cashierr but was told my order wasn't up yet, so I sat and waited. As Ubereats and Doordash people, those who called or online ordered, and walk in customers also waited and waited, with a few trickles getting their precious ribs came and went (one line? Two lines? Three lines? No one was sure we're to stand or sit, occasionally asking as an employee would emerge from the kitchen).
After 3 or 4 inquiries I finally had my order at 5:05. An hour and half wait that was ordered and paid for 6 hours previously. Others around me has similar stories. No matter how good the food it just isn't worth that kind of delay. Not when tasty ribs are available loads of other places. Not when years of experience should have had this solved.
I will take my...
