Fatal flaw made by this restaurant that highlights their lack of professionalism and accountability. Server did not notify us that they are "out of scallops" until after my meal was served to me and was partially eaten. Prosciutto on the dish was also left out. Once notifying the server, she went to talk to chef and returned to tell me they are out of scallops and they forgot my dish had scallops and didn't notify me at the start because of that. Then proceeded to also tell me that there is indeed prosciutto on the dish... that I was eating and very clearly could did not have prosciutto in it. I requested a reduced price for the dish to be told they "gave extra shrimp" which is meaningless because it has a noticeable price difference from scallops and I was not informed I wasn't getting the dish I ordered. Further discussion with a local in our party states that they seem to always never have scallops so I wonder if this is some sort of scamming process where they keep scallops on the menu but never have them in stock so that they can profit more off dishes. Poorly handled situation combined with the individual at the front desk who greets people with an uninviting tone and facial expressions does not give this place a reason to return.
To comment on the food, mostly good. I'd give that a 7/10. But experience makes it all and this ill-handled should not be repeated behavior...
Read moreReading these negative reviews makes me lose all hope for humanity and common sense. First of all Bongiorno’s doesn’t have a kids menu. They also don’t have happy meals or a prize at the bottom of a box. When you dine here you don’t worry about the price or portion size. You leave it to the chef. If you do you’re at the wrong establishment. Cuisine prepared at Bongiorno’s is the same as if you were dining in Sicily. Of course you won’t be near the Tyrrhenian Sea and most likely the limoncello is made with 190 proof alcohol instead. You won’t get that here in Birmingham. What you will get are authentic dishes, made to order and with a wait staff who has been properly trained to ensure the finest dining experience around. As far as the food being bland, you don’t know bland until you’ve eaten boiled, boneless, skinless chicken breast with no salt or pepper. First we must define bland. Once you understand the definition of the word you’ll realize you’re either a smoker who has damaged senses or you live off of fast food and processed food. Neither will you find here. This proves their levels of culinary proficiency and experience. Understanding fine dining is a journey that will never...
Read moreI would like to start off by saying that the atmosphere is authentic Italian, unfortunately that's the only thing that is authentic. The music would switch from Sinatra to some modern Italian pop music to Crosby. Some of the staff was friendly, the server could not have been any nicer, I must say. However I was disappointed when the bread came along and it was just plain white bread with a little olive oil and pepper on a saucer. No garlic, no noticeable seasonings. Just plain bread from Publix's, bakery I'm assuming. I got the shrimp and scallop entree salad with a raspberry vinaigrette. I did not notice the raspberry vinaigrette when I ordered and despite not liking raspberry I enjoyed the vinaigrette. However, the spring mix did not taste very "springy", the Shrimps still had the shell around their tail and here's why I'm giving this place 1 star. I was served undercooked scallops that I'm still feeling the effects of a week afterwards. If I could send Chef Gordon Ramsay to this establishment I would do so in a heartbeat. If this is Authentic Italian, my name is...
